I heard dieting makes you dumber

October 18, 2013 by Shari Leave a Comment

I’m a breast feeding mother and proud of it. My mum and my sister struggled with maintaining a milk supply, so I feel so blessed to have hit the 6 month mark with Mr Moo and still be going strong. I eat to keep me and my child strong and healthy and I’m definitely not thinking about diets,.
I think that I’m looking pretty good – I eat whatever I want and have still managed to get back into my size 8 jeans (even though I am carrying 10GG milk jugs).

But as I know, just as you think that you’re looking good, someone (most often my mother inlaw) will bring you back to reality, with comments like:

‘I was talking to my friend Anka yesterday and she said you looked nice and skinny. I told her, No she isn’t skinny!’, or

‘Do you know you have a big goza SP (bottom in Croatian) and you waddle like a duck’, or

‘I seen those tops that suck you in on the TV – maybe I buy you some’…

No – no thank you, I’m not interested in those tops or skippy cake with coffee or trying to diet, I only follow the Diet Dynamo and the Diet Dynamo looks at the Mayo Clinic Diet for advice all the time, they say doing a strict diet does not work. I had a baby, I’m proud of my body and what it has accomplished. I’ve brought life into this world and if it means that this summer I choose to wear a one piece instead of a bikini, I’m okay with that.

Anyway, I heard on mamamia.com.au that dieting makes you dumber…and what with baby brain and sleepless nights, I’ve got to hold onto all the brain power I can muster!

Are you a breast feeding Mummy? What is your favourite thing to eat?

*Side note, what kind of ‘Good Food Week’ would it be if all I posted was recipes for carrot sticks and celery juice?

I feel like we definitely up the amount of fruit that we eat during the holidays cause everyone seems to be always snacking...

And well, when you’re at school, you’ve got what you’re sent with - and there is really only that crazy period between 3:15 and 5:30pm when they ask for snacks until dinner.

Start by browning off some chicken thighs ( I bought these ones from @delishdeliveries with the skin on and the bone in).

Sauté with 2 brown onions and a head of garlic. Season and then add cherry tomatoes, passata and thyme. Transfer to a 180 degree oven for 45 minutes.

I served mine with a mash of potatoes, spinach and more garlic 🧄 No vampires here 😝

Shari from GoodFoodWeek

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
