Life: what’s in my kitchen this month

January 1, 2015 by Shari Leave a Comment

It always startels me how quickly Christmas and the New Year comes and goes! We all run around like chooks with our heads chopped off as we approach the end of the year and then it whizzes by and we are back with our heads down and our noses to the grind stone for another year. This year I would love to create more of a buzz around this blog – so I’ll be joining a few more link ups like this one hosted by Celia’s from Fig Jam and Lime Cordial.

If you’d like me to write about anything in particular this year, or to guest post on your blog, or to link up with you – stop by and leave a comment {or shoot me an email – I promise I’ll reply}.
In my kitchen January kitchen…
Is this amazingly refreshing juice by Charlie’s {I purchased this juice it wasn’t gifted}. I’m sure all you pregnant and breast feeding Mamas out there will agree that over the festive season you feel like you missed out in a tipple – but this juice sure makes up for that.
In my January kitchen…
Are all thing Japanese {as I push my culinary boundaries and try to create some delicious food that isn’t based around Mexican ingredients}. I found this awesome tonkatsu sauce from Obento at my local Coles and I thought why not?
In my January kitchen…
I can smell beautiful hydrangeas from our local markets…But I am also going mad for Mayver’s Tahini paste and Chobani greek yoghurt as I branch into all things Middle Eastern. Although I did see on ‘Secret Eaters’ that too much Tahini can be extremely taxing on the waistline so I will be using it in moderation.

In my January kitchen…
There is far too much Crostoli leftover as my husband went over board and bought like 50 packets from the markets as he loves it at Christmas time.
So what’s in your kitchen this month? Anything interesting? Anything that I should be purchasing? Is your husband an over purchaser like mine?

I feel like we definitely up the amount of fruit that we eat during the holidays cause everyone seems to be always snacking...

And well, when you’re at school, you’ve got what you’re sent with - and there is really only that crazy period between 3:15 and 5:30pm when they ask for snacks until dinner.

I mean, at least this is what they are eating...
Chicken tray bake - also known as chicken amatrici Chicken tray bake - also known as chicken amatriciana...

Start by browning off some chicken thighs ( I bought these ones from @delishdeliveries with the skin on and the bone in).

Sauté with 2 brown onions and a head of garlic. Season and then add cherry tomatoes, passata and thyme. Transfer to a 180 degree oven for 45 minutes.

I served mine with a mash of potatoes, spinach and more garlic 🧄 No vampires here 😝

Who doesn’t love a margarita on a hot summer evening?

I popped this @drinklisto Tommy’s Margarita Mix in my @delishdeliveries order as a little Christmas present to me.

Think I’ll order another cause they went down way too easy!
This prawn plonk was was super easy after a day in This prawn plonk was was super easy after a day in the sun - and the simple combination of mayo and @joshandsue rose harissa was the perfect ‘sauce’!

The salad was cos lettuce, avocado, cucumber, and dill dressed in lime juice, olive oil and salt.

When @delishdeliveries deliver the perfect produce you don’t need to do very much 👏🏻

Shari from GoodFoodWeek

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
