Saying thank you

October 10, 2013 by Shari

Often we get caught up in asking for things… It doesn’t matter if you’re religious or not. We are asking things of people (or spiritual beings) whether it be from friends and family or God or all of the above. But some times it’s nice just to stop and offer up some thanks.
Thanks for surrounding me with loving relationships. Thanks for blessing me with a healthy and happy son. Thanks for a roof over my head and food on the table.

There can be times in our lives when we get stuck on first world problems. These first world problems blind us to the real problems in the world – the problems that really matter.

The problems that should slap us in the face and say ‘pull yourself together’ at the very least and ‘pull your head out of your arse’ if they were really being honest!

Sometimes we forget how lucky we are.

I want to raise my son to be grateful of what we have and never to expect anything (there will be no sliver spoons or sliver platters in this house). I want him to see how lucky we are in this life and I want to remember this myself!

So thank you for my beautiful son who puts a smile on my face every day. Thank you for blessing him with health and happiness. Even if I do complain over the sleepless night or two, I am truly grateful that he is in my life.

Thank you for my beautiful husband who always has my best interest at heart. He is a wonderful husband and an awesome Daddy. Even if I do complain that he acts like a child sometimes, he’s normally just trying to make me smile. (And let’s face it I do find fart jokes funny).

Thank you for my lovely friends and family who provide me with strength and listen to my worries no matter how small. A problem shared is a problem halved and I know that I’ve even laughed away problems over a cup of tea or two.

Thank you for letting me live in a country that is safe and secure – and allows me the opportunity to be a stay at home mum. No matter how much we complain about the government, we have had the ability to vote them in and they provide us with a country in which we are safe and free from persecution.

I am grateful for my life and this positive perspective that I have been blessed with.

What would you like to say thank you for today?

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
