Learning to walk seems like a thing of the past, you are so good at it now. You absolutely took off after your first birthday and haven’t looked back since. Running and climbing are two of your favourite things to do and we are so happy that you are an active child.
At 14 months you mastered climbing into your high chair all by yourself, and you even try to do the buckle up by yourself. You love understanding and trying to work out ‘how things work’. You are amused by putting pieces of lego together and apart of hours.
Your speech really came on, and also at 14 months you started linking words. The first was ‘get out’ as in you wanted to get out of the pram. It wasn’t the best time for you to get out of the pram, but I had to explain to the shop keeper that I had to get you out and give you a cuddle as you had used your words instead of screaming and we had been working on this.
The second time you linked words, you said ‘we’re here’ when we pulled up in Nannie and Pappie’s driveway in Sydney. When I asked you ‘where are we’, you said ‘here’ like I was silly in even asking.
You also love letting us know that the dinosaur says ‘ROAR’ and you like to watch dinosaur programs on TV, but your favourite show on TV is Deedee and Bee. I think it’s great that you are getting into TV because I think this will help when I am feeding your brother or sister – although you only really like the short programs… that’s okay, I like you like to be active instead of watching TV.
By 16 months, you were so independent that Daddy and I joked that you would be moving out next month. You want to walk by yourself (normally taking off running if we try to hold your hand), you want to feed yourself (and are actually quiet masterful with a spoon and a fork), and you even attempt to help me out dressing and undressing yourself.
You love having a shower with Daddy – and used to always want to be up in his arms, but your independence even shows at shower time. You want to stand up independently in the shower and arent afraid to have the water running over your face.
By 18 months, you have mastered making more animal noises including; quack quack, baa baa, oink oink. You are super talkative – even if it is baby talk most of the time. You love picking up the cordless phone and pretending you are talking to Nannie or Daddy.
You love cars. You love sitting in the front seat of the car with Daddy, and Daddy bought you your first ever car. It is red and you jump in it and call out ‘See Ya’ as you drive away from us. You also like singing in the car and I am surprised as you start singing words out of songs as they come on the radio.
I can’t wait to see you grow and change as your sibling enters our lives. I hope that you will continue to be a great eater, and a great sleeper, and as as loving as you are with us now.
