What is your best tip for appreciating food?
Turn off the TV and put down your iPhone. In today’s society, so much time is spent looking at our iphones and androids whilst we are eating. I know multitasking is in – but just try to enjoy your food {not to mention your family and/or friends} whilst you are eating.
What food would you miss the most?
Sushi – I really, really miss sushi when I am pregnant and I can not enjoy it.
Name one meal at a Canberra eatery or restaurant that is on your wish list.
I’d love to go to Temporada and have the oysters. I feel like it was ages ago that I heard about them and how amazing they are…but I was pregnant and so didn’t get the opportunity to try them {I know, I know, some people eat them whilst pregnant…I was playing it safe and I follow all the food rules whilst pregnant, that’s just who I am}.
Which five foods do you think are the most versatile when it comes to creating a great, spontaneous meal?
1. Rice
2. Potatoes
3. Chicken
4. Cheese
5. Pizza bases {really good quality ones from the Markets that you can have frozen and always in your freezer for when sh*t hits the fan and you want to get dinner out in less then 20 minutes}.
What is your favourite meal of the day and why?
Dinner – because that’s when I can gather my entire family {and some friends, if we are lucky} and enjoy sharing a meal. To me having someone to share a meal with is what often makes it great.
If you could eat every meal for a day at a different spot in Canberra, where would you go and what would you have?
Breakfast – I’m hitting up Elk and Pea for their Paprika Spiced Eggs – a pot of poached eggs with melted paprika butter, chorizo, whipped yoghurt and flaked almonds, served with a side of toasted sourdough. {$17 – Gluten Free} and a soy late.
Lunch – I’ll be at Eighty/Twenty Food for their Dukkah spiced eggs with flat bread, hummus, house made labna and charred eggplant, capsicum and parsley salad {$14.50} and of course a ‘The Fix’ juice or two.
Dinner – And finally I’ll call into EightySix with a large group of friends so that we can try a whole range of different dishes which are usually a lot more interesting than they might first sound {especially hitting up a blackboard special or two}.
How do you like to order from a menu? (Do you choose favourites, always try something new, look for the best, share with friends, pick dessert first, read the on-line reviews first?)
When I am eating out I like to use the mantra ‘What can’t I cook at home?’
What would be your ideal food themed trip?
I’ve travelled a lot {prior to having children that is}. I’d love to try somewhere I haven’t been … then again both of these places I have been too, but they would be easy for me to do with children. I’m thinking of heading to the USA maybe – to try all of their crazy food trends {which I watch on ‘Man vs. Food}. Or possible back to Europe {as we have family in Croatia} and experiencing the food journey again, but this time with children.
If you could take 11 friends anywhere for a meal, where would you go and what would you eat?
I would have them at my home {because it’s just easier these days with kids to be at home – that way kids can sit in high chairs, play with toys and then be put to bed at regular bedtimes}. It also means that we can kick on as long as we would like and we aren’t going to be kicked out after our mains as another group has booked our table. I’d cook easy meza dishes to be shared and enjoyed.
