February 12, 2015 by Shari

Thе history оf сооkіng wіth саnnаbіѕ dаtеѕ as far bасk аѕ thе 10th сеnturу India, whеrе people have bееn uѕіng a mіxturе оf grоund cannabis flоwеrѕ аnd mіlk (Bhаng) fоr ѕріrіtuаl рurроѕеѕ., there are tons of Uses of CBD, thankfully cooking is one of them.

Kratom plants are used to make tinctures for various functions. Kratom is a medicinal plant harvested from large trees of the Rubiaceae family native to Southeast Asia. It was formally documented by the Dutch colonial botanist who gave its genus name Mitragyna, for the stigmas of the first species resembled the shape of a bishop’s mitre. Kratom leaves are constantly being shed and replaced, while leaf fall is abundant during the dry season of the year. This is replaced with new growth that is more plentiful during the rainy season. Kratom trees grow best in wet, humid, fertile soil with medium to full sun exposure. There are two different strains of Kratom – the white vein and red vein Kratom, click site for further details. Each one carries a variation in its chemical makeup, giving it a particular set of properties. The different colors come from their leaves and stems, which you will instantly spot by just looking at the leaves. But the variations don’t just stop with color. You will also have to consider colors that come from different locations within the South East Asian region. The various locations where the Kratom grows influences the ultimate properties of the strains. Although identifying the Kratom by its location holds true for Kratom in many cases, it’s not always true. It’s possible that the red thai kratom you bought as coming from Thailand may have nothing to do with Thailand! Thailand made the growing and trade of Kratom illegal back in 1943. Therefore any Red Thai kratom identified as such is most likely coming from other neighboring areas within South East Asia. However, Kratom was originally one of the leading exports of Thailand in the 1940s, rivaling the opium trade. It’s believed that the interest to protect the profitable opium trade against the competition posed by Kratom that motivated the outlawing of the Kratom in Thailand.

Traditional herbal medicines have been used for centuries as medicinal cures. Moreover, herbal and conventional medicines have identical processes in mediating its effects on the human body. On the other hand, this also gives herbal medicines the potential to cause harmful side effects if not ingested or used correctly. Tinctures are basically an alcoholic extract often made up of various concentrations of ethanol. Some herbal tinctures do not use ethanol as a solvent-though this is the most frequently applied solvent. Other solvents used in tinctures include vinegar, glycerol, and ether propylene glycol. Herbs are put in a jar and soaked in 40% alcohol that is left to stand for 2-3 weeks. This is then shaken occasionally to maximize the concentration of the solution.

The Kratom plant’s pharmacology is primarily mediated by the alkaloid mitragynine, which have no psychedelic effects or similarities to such substances. The Kratom is also used as a sedative, pain killer, anti-diarrheal solution, and is used to treat opiate addiction.

The calming effects of a Kratom tincture acts as a sedative that helps people recover from lack of rest, and it is commonly applied to people ailing from insomnia. A tincture of kratom acts as a caffeine-like stimulant when taken in lower dosages.

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
