Motherhood: 5 tips for having two under two

March 14, 2015 by Shari

So I’ve now had my two little ones for a total of almost 6 months and I thought that I would put together a little post about what I have learnt about having two under two. I know that when I was looking for a little information before the Little Dude was born there wasn’t much – so I hope that this information is helpful for those of you who come after me.

Here are my top 5 tips for having two under two:

1. Always strap your eldest in first and unleash your eldest last: I thought that this would be my best tip and then I saw that Mother Down Under had written something similar {whilst this post was still sitting in my draft folder – great minds think alike}.

Your youngest will be unable to move for the initial part of this relationship, so attend to your eldest child first {because they will be the one who is more likely to be running around and almost getting hit by a car if you don’t}.

I have found that I strap Mr Moo into the car and then proceed to go back into the house and grab the Little Dude in his capsule. Then when we arrive at our destination, I will set up the pram {I have a Baby Jogger, City Select in double mode for anyone wondering} and strap Mr Moo in first and then take the Little Dude out and either attach the capsule to the pram {if he is asleep} or use the second seat {if he is awake}.

Another great option is using the pram in single mode {to keep Mr Moo under control} and baby wearing the Little Dude so that I have two hands free.

2. Co-sleeping isn’t as bad as everyone makes out it is: To be able to survive with two under two you need all the sleep that you can get. And this means that sometimes it is easier to lay down with your toddler to get them to sleep and some times it means co-sleeping with our newborn. Restorative dentistry focuses on restoring the health and function to the gums and teeth for a stable and durable oral foundation. Missing teeth, broken, chipped and worn teeth all present both cosmetic and restorative dental concerns. Treating these conditions is essential in maintaining oral health and can help improve the quality of your life. Dentists in Eugene have expertise to provide good dental treatments. Restorative dentistry can give you back your confidence and restore your oral health.  Cosmetic dentistry is dentistry aimed toward creating a positive change to your teeth and to your smile. For more details about restorative dentistry,  you can Visit Website here. West Cobb Dentistry’s smiles represent themselves and are a testament to our skill, expertise and artistic finesse. Using the simplest materials, advanced techniques and therefore the latest dental technology, we are known for “getting it right the primary time.” There are different options available in creating a gorgeous , natural smile. Dr. Hall will discuss your treatment options and develop an idea that’s right for you.

Remember the following things and you should be fine:

  • Keep the bedding light and minimal, and don’t use a duvet if you are co-sleeping. If your baby is less than a year old, use lightweight covers, and use them sparingly to prevent overheating or suffocation. This risk is highest during his first three months of his life. Check every now and then to make sure he hasn’t wriggled down and covered his head.
  • Don’t let your baby and toddler sleep next to each other in bed. Toddlers don’t understand the risks, and could roll over onto your baby, or put an arm across his mouth or head. You or your partner should always sleep between the children if you want them both in your bed.
  • Your baby should never be left alone on the bed, as he could easily fall out, even if you’ve just nipped to the loo. Don’t let your baby sleep on a pillow, or put one either side of him, as he may roll off it or be smothered in the folds.
  • Don’t co-sleep with your newborn if you are super tired, have been drinking or smoking, or have taken medication or drugs for it can affect the health of your baby. Even as Orlando confronts serious addiction fatality counts, only 0.2 percent of Orlando’s population seeks medical treatment for addiction, a figure that is much lower than numbers seen elsewhere in the country.  here are virtually unlimited sober-friendly entertainment Orlando rehab options for those in recovery that Orlando has to offer. There’s Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, and Sea World, to name a few. Once you have your fill of the theme parks, however, there are still endless choices for ways to enjoy yourself.Among those who do get into rehab, more than half come from a life in which drug use is a daily habit. Over the rest of the country, daily users account for only a third of those who go to rehab. It can also help to determine if the rehab center that you go to has programs specifically designed for the addictions that you struggle with. Whether it is alcohol, opiates or anything else, custom-designed programs are far more likely to deliver success than generic ones. Here, as well, Legacy Healing Center works for most patients, simply because it offers a wide range of specially designed programs.  If you can’t resist smoking for instance, do it when you’re outside the house and after that, you can go straight to 1501 Green Road Suite F Pompano Beach, FL 33064 to buy wholesale vape juice. In fact, you should go to one of the inpatient centers and get cleaned first. This may affect your memory and you could forget that your baby is in your bed and roll over onto him.

3. Make time to cuddle your eldest: There has been a big change in your eldest’s life and they will see you ‘cuddling’ your newborn a lot. Think about it – you’ll be holding your newborn whilst you feed them, you will be holding your newborn whilst you put them to sleep, you’ll be holding your newborn when they cry, any new person coming into the home will want to hold the newborn. So make sure you take time to cuddle your eldest.

4. Keep up your toddler’s activities: Routine keeps your toddler happy {and funny enough it will keep Mummy sane too}. It breaks up your day, gets you out of the house {and hopefully into the sunshine} and it can also tire out your toddler so that they are more willing to take their nap.

You might need to give up the thinking that your newborn needs to nap in a cot, but I assure you that they will be fine. Babies can sleep in prams, or in capscules, or in slings, or in portacots at other people’s homes. Your second child will be very resilient like that.

5. Buy some bento boxes: It somehow always happens that as soon as your newborn starts to breast feed your toddler will also want something. We had a special snack box and some special activities that only came out whilst I was breast feeding.

Bento boxes are amazing as you can set out lots of little snacks that toddlers would like. I filled mine with interesting healthy bits and pieces that my toddler would love to eat whilst my newborn was feeding {and it’s not like you aren’t going to need a lunch box for your little one at some stage!}. Our family dentist strives to create a general awareness for good oral health using the best equipment for this including the use of dental coatings and other treatments, and he also emphasizes all the time the importance of healthy eating habits for children. This is a great dental clinic, you can visit their website and make an appointment to see for yourself.

Do you have any great tips on raising two under two? I’d love for you to share your experiences/memories below…

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
