Motherhood: There is no vaccination ‘debate’

April 16, 2015 by Shari

So many people have been weighing in on the ‘Vaccination Debate’ – but I liked it when Mamamia stated that there isn’t a ‘debate’ the science is in and if you’re not vaccinating your child you are not only putting your child at risk, but all children {and those in our community who are ‘high risk’ like the elderly, those who have a weakened immune system, pregnant people} your child comes into contact with.

Prime Minister, Tony Abbott, and Social Services Minister, Scott Morrison announced on the 12th of April that parents who do not vaccinate their children may lose up to $15,000 in government benefits.
Abbott and Morrison said that they are scrapping the “conscientious objection” provision that allows parents who do not vaccinate their children to still claim benefits such as Family Tax Benefit A, as well as assistance for childcare. A narrow religious objection provision will remain, as will legitimate medical exemptions. We advocate the programs on addiction rehabilitation for the greater good of the community and to help them be cleansed of substance addiction.
Minister Morrison said, “we want to make sure that our kids are healthy, that our families are healthy and when you put them into childcare you can have that confidence.”
But what about those people who aren’t fussed about the government benefits – the people within the affluent areas that currently have a poor immunization rate? What can we do to increase their willingness to vaccinate their children?
My children are currently up-to-date with their vaccinations. But this doesn’t mean that I do not worry for them because the fact of the matter is that the herd immunity is down.
I worry about them when I take them to the park or the play centre and there is another child there coughing all over the place. Now, I know that kids will be kids and they will share germs and get sick from time to time and I am not worried out that.
But what about when I bring the next baby home from the hospital and they are yet to be vaccinated?

I’m worried about terrible illnesses that we have the ability to stop {and for a period of time look like they were eradicated}. I think it’s best summed up by Penn and Teller in this awesome little Youtube clip that Mamamia shared the other day {click here, oh and it does contain swearing}.

Whooping cough is REAL {in fact, there have been 83 cases of whooping cough, or pertussis, in the ACT in 2015 to date}.

Whooping cough is killing young children {the most recent, baby Riley John Hughes} .
Whooping cough can be prevented by vaccination – and we can protect young babies {who are unable to receive the vaccination} through herd immunity.
I spoke to our local practice nurse about these ‘natural’ vaccinations that people are currently pushing over the standard ‘jab’ that children receive via a medical practitioner . They are not vaccinations – don’t tell me your child is vaccinated when they drank some lolly water {I think these parents need to stop drinking the kool-aid}.
If there are instance that you or someone likes to enhance their body shape. Then all you need to do is to visit our trusted surgeon right here at cosmetic surgery sydney. See the result yourself and achieve your body shape goal!

There is not debate – VACCINATE!

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
