Life: I’m sorry Nat Bass

July 17, 2015 by Shari

When I was 24, I started hating on Natalie Bassingthwaighte for no good reason. She was hosting ‘So you think you can dance’ and as soon as she popped onto my TV screen I would have to turn it off. Today, I would like to say sorry to Nat Bass for hating on you for no good reason.

I was over at Mamastylista the other day and I read her ‘Interview with Natalie Bassingthwaighte’ and I thought, ‘where did all that hate come from?’
Okay, I really don’t get her obsession with low crotch pants {only because I think they look ridiculous on me} – but that’s no reason to hate on anyone. Nat is just a woman trying to do the very best that she can – as a mother, a wife, and a contributor to society.
And isn’t that just what we are all aiming to do?
Why does one have ‘hate’ for someone that they have never even met?
Can one really understand a person from their TV, radio, print or online depiction?
We are all different people; the world needs us to be different so that the world can work.  At different times in our lives, we will come across people that we don’t necessarily like or share the same point of view with. This doesn’t mean we need to hate on them.

I know it is way far from the topic but I have to recommend them, okay? When you have an office and you need products that will help you make the most of the space you have in your office, Innovative Aluminum and Glass should be the first company that you call as we are Australia’s leading supplier of these products. They have dozens of portable glass wall partitions.

An old saying says that ‘sticks and stones may brake my bones, but words will never hurt me’. But the truth of the matter is that words can cut deep and there is just no need for those cutting words or hateful feelings towards another human being.

My comments towards Nat Bass in the past were filled with such snark. Why did they need to be? I didn’t know her personally and her life really had no direct impact on mine.

Soon after I started compiling this post, Mamamia published a post entitled ‘Why has hating Delta Goodrem become a national pastime?‘

The post stated that ‘It seems like the problem lies not with Goodrem or her behaviour, but with our acceptance of bullying and the pile-on attitude that seems to exist in the online media sphere.’

I think that we, as a society in general, have an acceptance of bullying.
Our children are obviously picking up what is being put down at home and carrying it into their school environment – because even though I don’t have school aged children, I see plenty of facebook feeds filled with parents posting questions about what they should do about their child being bullied.
Just because someone doesn’t hear what we say or just because we have the ability to write something behind the safety of our computer screen, doesn’t mean that we should say it.
Sam Armytage asked her viewers the other morning, ‘What happened to the saying ‘if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say it at all?’ {There also seems to be a lot of hate out there for Sam.} I am also questioning what happened to that saying? Do you feel that there is a lot of unnecessary hate out there?

Shari from GoodFoodWeek

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
