I love these posts each month. I love seeing what other members of this foodie community have in their kitchen {heck, I love checking out what others have in their shopping trolley at the supermarket}. When I am at the supermarket; I see the mothers with children loading the nappies that come on sale into their trolleys, I see the single man with his loaf of bread, four apples and a case of beer, I see the daughter looking after her elderly mother picking up her favourite biscuits and her toiletries. Who do you see when you are doing your shopping?
I always think it is interesting to see what others have in their trolleys. Do they pick up the same brands as me or do they use foreign {as in foreign to me} brands? Do they cook with similar ingredients or do they choose to work with different flavour profiles?
As you know, I’m joining link ups this year and this link up is hosted by Celia’s from Fig Jam and Lime Cordial.
In my July kitchen…
There are babycinos and sourdough from Knead Patisserie at the Belconnen Markets. Thankfully, the days are no set to get longer {and warmer} seeing as we are past the winter solstice. This doesn’t mean that it’s going to get any warmer any time soon – but we have to look on the positive side living here in Canberra { #canbrrr }. We love warming up with a babycino here at GoodFoodWeek and I love that a babycino and some sourdough bread keep Mr Moo quiet for a short period of time {enough for me to unpack the groceries and maybe check out some social media}.
I know a time will come when you won’t get the chocolate all over your face when you drink your babycino, so I’ll capture these moments and enjoy the little things in life. |

My husband has enjoyed a Enterprise Brewery Knappstein lager or two. I saw a positive write up on these beers, so I thought that I would be a good wife and pick up a few for my husband to try. He gave them the double thumbs up.

I’ve been thinking about a theme for the Little Dude’s first birthday. He is a big fan of ‘Where is the Green Sheep?’ And so when I saw these wines by ‘Counting Sheep’, I thought I would pick them up and give them a taste test – as they would be really cute wines to serve at a ‘Where is the Green Sheep?’ themed first birthday. Because isn’t a first birthday is all about toasting the Mummy and the Daddy for making it through the first year!

I’ve been spicing things up with Josh & Sue’s Rose Harissa. Harissa seemed to be a popular ingredient in a few foodie magazines that I read. So I thought that I would pick some up and try it out. I have really been enjoying this harissa – and adding a little bit of spice to my meals. It is totally awesome combined with Blessed & Lucky’s ‘free range egg garlicky aioli’ {see below} on some homemade fries.

I’ve been cheating every now and again and I’ve been using Blessed & Lucky’s ‘Free Range Egg Garlicky Aioli’. I love making my very own aioli, but I also think that when you come across something as good as this – there isn’t any harm in picking it up and enjoying it.
In my July kitchen…
There has been plenty of mussels {which have been purchased from the Belconnen Markets – for those Canberrans who are interested}. I’ve found that mussels are a great dinner party meal for me at the moment – as I can prepare everything prior to my guest arriving, add the mussels into the pot as guests arrive and after 8 minutes of steaming, they are open and ready to enjoy. I’ve got a post on creating your own Belgium Beer Hall at home coming up soon, with an awesome recipe for mussels.

I’ve been whipping up Donna Hay’s ‘roasted garlic salsa verde’. It’s super simple and is not only delicious on her crab boil, but on grilled fish, seared steak and fresh, crusty bread.
What have you had in your kitchen lately? What are some of your favourite ingredients to use in July? Do you like to eat seasonal produce? Have you found anything interesting at the Belconnen Markets?

Oh, I don’t know if I have ever had cheezy garlic mussels – but they sound delicious. I think I need to cook up some mussels again STAT.
