Life: Loving local – Lucianne and Jovan from The Fix {Cold Pressed Juice}

October 25, 2015 by Shari

I love ‘The Fix’ and I have for a long time. Both the Mr Moo and I, enjoy a Cold Pressed Juice Delivery at least once a week . I tend to get a vegetable based juice, however I have really been enjoying the taste of vanilla and cinnamon of late in the mix. I was stoked when I got the opportunity to meet the creators of The Fix, Lucianne and Jovan{and sample their range for the upcoming season} at Eat.Drink.Blog last week… I’d been conversing with them via email to put this post together, but it is just so nice to have the opportunity to meet them in real life!

What is your food story?

Well that is an interesting one. There is a short article here about our journey with cancer and how that changed the way we see food.

Why are you passionate about Canberra’s local produce?
Canberra has some amazing local producers and when we shop locally we know that we are contributing to our  community in a positive way. It’s not just about injecting money into the local economy it is also about promoting more sustainable business practices. Businesses that serve their communities tend to get to know their customers which means that they never want to let them down.  We love local because we know where our food is coming from. If you buy locally then you know that the food has had a short field to fork journey. Its just fresher!

Why is it important that we understand where our food comes from?
We believe that everyone is responsible for their own health and so it is important to know where your food comes from. Everyone who buys our juices know that we source our vegetables from Australia and they know that we have relationships with our suppliers. Our customers also know that we press in 1kg of fruit and vegetables into each bottle. We also make a promise never to apply heat, additives or preservatives so there is a quality promise that is tied to our belief about good food promoting good health. Our customers also know that they can come have a chat with Jovan and me if anything doesn’t meet their expectations. We have a “Lets make it right” policy where we promise that the customer will always walk away feeling good about the outcome. What differentiates your produce from others?

IMG_7580

What differentiates you from other juices on the market, especially since not all Juice have the same quality compared to the ones from orangina.

We are Canberra’s first cold pressed juice company. We are unique because:

– we are cold pressed which means we never apply heat to our products
– no two juices are ever the same, so our customers know that they are getting something that is very personalised
– we are organic because we think our customers deserve the best damn juice there is
– we have glass bottles because we want to have a sustainable business model
– we are seasonal because we want our juice to be made with the freshest most available produce
– our juices are vegetable based which means they have higher than average nutritional value
– we build our juices around wellbeing and most of them contain ingredients with mood balancing properties
Why is supporting local important to you?
When you support local business and local suppliers you are building an ecosystem for a community to flourish in.
It is a support system for the customer too who then has access to more information about where their food comes from and more advice.
We support local events because it also gives our customers and new customers an opportunity to try our juices, get better prices and learn more about the health benefits of eating/drinking more vegetables. People do not realise this but Local producers often stock a high percentage of local sourced goods which do not require long car and bus journeys, helping reduce our global footprint.People who buy our juice know that it is made in their city by people who live in their city. I think that is pretty special.

What an inspiring story and a great product. I’m a big fan of juices and the Fix ones sound fantastic. I love that it’s all about keeping it local – what an ace interview!

So many people just think ‘politics’ when they think about Canberra – but we have an awesome fresh produce seen. These cold pressed juices from The Fix are amazing and their story is inspiring. Thanks for liking this interview Sammie 🙂

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
