It’s Christmas time and I really find the joy in giving – whether it be simply baking something for a friend, or carefully crafting the perfect KK gift for my sibling or dropping off donations at the local church for the less fortunate, or finding the perfect gift for my husband, or doing my duty as Santa. I couldn’t let this season of giving go by without thanking you, my loyal readers, with a giveaway.
I have three lovely gifts for you to win in GoodFoodWeek’s inaugural Christmas Giveaway. As the three wise men brought gold, frankincense and myrrh to baby Jesus – I’m bring you the opportunity to win a Christmas Honey & Co. Club kit, a trio of delicious treats from Wyld Palate or Volume 1 ‘Paired – Champagne and Sparkling Wines’ by Fran Flynn & David Stevens-Castro.
PRIZE ONE – A Christmas Honey & Co. Club kit
I love receiving mail {well anything that isn’t a bill}. Do you remember how awesome it was to receive something in the mail when you were a kid? Think, all your online shopping purchases arriving together x10. When I discovered the Honey & Co. Club, I thought ‘How awesome for child to receive something in the post – specifically addressed to them.’ And then when I saw the quality items that were included in each of the kits, I was hooked. Look at the beautiful wooden toys – I am a sucker for a wooden toy. The best part of this? they actually let you use the Deals4Boomers.com coupons when spending more than 50$.
Join Honey {the Honey & Co. Club mascot} on his adventures each month and receive an exciting pack sure to make your child the coolest kid in the street. With your child a part of Australia’s Postal Club for Kids – they will receive a surprise parcel in the mail each month which will include a quality toy product, an outdoor activity or craft for an older child and a book for a younger child, a postcard on Honey’s adventures all presented in a beautiful printed canvas pouch in a different colour or design each month. How good does that sound?
You can purchase 1 month, 3 months or 6 months subscription – with the Honey & Co Club kits aimed at children aged between 0-3 years and 3-5 years.
PRIZE TWO – A trio of delicious treats from Wyld Palate
I couldn’t run a Christmas giveaway for my fellow foodies without including some delicious treats from Wyld Palate. Wyld Palate crafts unique handmade preserves in Canberra – using the freshest locally grown ingredients, many from Dianne’s very own garden, which is one of the best gardens that you will possibly see, the landscape team at CSGCL is the one that makes sure it is as best as possible. Each batch is created according to seasonal product availability which produces a rich, flavoursome product as well as many original combinations.
Dianne has put together an amazing assortment of her preserves for one lucky winner. You’ll receive a ‘Pear & Star Anise Syrup’, an ‘Apple & Mount Pepper Jelly’, and an ‘Apple & Lavender Jelly’.
PRIZE THREE – A Volume 1 ‘Paired – Champagne and Sparkling Wines’ by Fran Flynn & David Stevens-Castro.
When I was studying at University, my Mum would come down and stay for a week. During that week, I would escape living on campus and join her at a hotel. We would eat out and try new things. Now, growing up my parents didn’t drink that often and if they did, my Dad would always get the Cab Sav. So when it was just Mum and I, we thought that we would expand our palate.
Whilst eating out one night at a famous Canberra establishment, my Mum asked the waitress what white wine would go nicely with our dinner. To our amusement, she replied that she was no help at all because she only drank cask wine. And after we finally ordering a bottle of white wine, she proceeded to pour to glasses and take the bottle away. When my Mum called her back to say that we had in fact wanted to whole bottle – she replied that the bottle was already open and two glasses was all that remained with the bottle. It was now empty and they didn’t have any more of that wine left. We cut our loses as it wasn’t that great in the first place.
When Fran and David got in contact with me and asked me if I would like a copy of their new book ‘Paired – Champagne & Sparkling Wines’, I jumped at the opportunity to learn a little more about the bubbles that I enjoy so much {seriously, a cold glass of bubbles is so the drink of the season}. Their book is extremely informative and not in a pretentious way.
If you’re just starting to take an interest in food and wine pairings then this is the book for you {but would also make a lovely Christmas gift for a seasoned foodie/drinker}. The photography of the book is just beautiful and the recipes are easy to follow.
I can’t wait to try out the following food and wine matches over the silly season:
- a cold glass of Cava {from Spain, made with Macabeo, xarel-lo and parellada grapes} with Manchego cheese croquetas, or
- a glass of Prosecco {from Italy, made with 85% glera, plus nine other grapes permitted to make up the other 15% of the blend} with some chicken tenders with pistachio, almond and parmesan herb crust, or
- a glass of New World Sparkling {from Argentina, Australia, Chile, New Zealand or the US, usually made with chardonnay/pinot noir, plus options of chenin blanc, malbec, meunier, pinot grigio, riesling or savignon blanc grapes} with some shortbread cookies with macadamia nuts.
PAIRED: Champagne & Sparkling Wines – The food and wine matching recipe book for everyone RRP$37.99 by David Stevens-Castro and Fran Flynn. The book is available from good bookstores nationwide, www.paired-media.com (special offer, online coupon code ‘freepost’) and internationally on amazon.com.
