I thought that I would start something new this year – and hopefully, my faithful readers will enjoy it. Basically, I thought that I would introduce you to some of my favourite people online {whether that be through blogging or through their social media channels}. This will hopefully be a regular thing and I would love to know what you think of the people that I introduce you to.
The first person who I would like to introduce you to is Rebecca Raskusin, the founder of Bites for Tots. I started out following her on instagram because her posts were so real and relatable. I have used some images from her instagram account throughout this post.
Why did you start blogging/participating in social media?
I started my Instagram page when my daughter was only 7 months old, I started helping friends that had babies around the same time as me and they convinced me to start a website with my baby food recipes. I ended up taking photos and sharing it on my personal Instagram page – which after a few weeks, changed the name to Bites for Tots, the rest is history!
What is your favourite social media channel?
I enjoy using mostly Instagram, Facebook and my blog – www.bites4tots.com
What is your favourite part of motherhood?
I’ve got to say my most favourite part would have to be the whole thing, there isn’t one specific thing I can think of because everything that comes with being a mother is something I cherish. I love the long nights, noisy house, toys scattered everywhere and my name being called out in every which direction- mum.
What is your least favourite part of motherhood?
It’s always easier to pick out something you dislike rather than like, that’s how we humans are programmed – with 100 good days we always remember that 1 bad day we had 5 years ago. My least favourite part of mother hood would have to be the mom criticism, the “I do it better because I do this….” Attitude really stinks and I believe moms everywhere need to stick together.
What is one thing that you always said you wouldn’t do when you were a parent – and now it is simply part of your routine?
I told myself that I would never give my kids fast food/junk food. It’s not part of our routine but my kids love lollypops and kinder eggs!
What is your best family recipe – that keeps everyone happy at dinner time?
The best family recipe that keeps everyone happy at dinner time would have to be my 3-cheese mac n cheese. It’s delicious, it’s got broccoli and cauliflower and a crispy breadcrumb top
What is your best ‘inside’ activity for keeping the little ones happy on a rainy day?
On a rainy day, my kids and I love baking and creating. We do tons of crafts, make playdoh and bake cookies/cupcakes. They just love creating and getting their hands dirty (and my floors)
During your pregnancy, what was your most common food craving, or most unusual craving?
I’ve been pregnant total 4 times, with 3 living children, all my cravings for all pregnancies started out with fresh fruit. I craved pineapples, soft peaches and red apples. Then the most uncommon craving was with my 4th pregnancy – I made a pizza from scratch, topped it with cucumber slices and drizzled white vinegar on top…it was delicious.
Have you ever thought gosh I can’t do this, and why?
The only time I have thought “gosh I can’t do this” was when my 2nd daughter was born. My son was 16 months and I thought I couldn’t nurse her, I couldn’t tend to both of them as they needed…it was very tough since I was alone from day 2 with two babies that were nursing and drinking breast milk – but none the less, I prevailed (smiley face)
How did you come up with your kids’ names?
All of my children’s names aren’t after anyone, they were just names we really liked and just stuck with it! We didn’t want to stress out on who to name after or does this person have a cousin with a baby with the same name…we just found a name and told friends and family after we registered for a birth certificate!
You’re in the supermarket, with a full cart, and your baby starts crying frantically…what do you do?
If my baby starts crying in the supermarket while I have a full cart…been there and done that! There is nothing and no one more important than my baby. I find out what they need, how I can easily fix it – and carry on. Whether I need to come back in an hour to finish paying or continue or get my husband to pay for the groceries and I take baby for a walk. Nothing really phases me because babies cry and I try not to take it personally or take it to heart. This tiny human which I adore needs me…NOW…I better drop everything and tend to them.
I’ll often leave the house without it being ‘pristine’, I’m all about making memories with the kids rather than them watching me mop and vacuum. What is your number one tip for keeping the house clean?
I try and clean as I go about my day so I don’t have to spend an entire day doing it. So when kids are in the basement and it’s time for a nap/to eat, I make sure we all clean up before heading upstairs.
They say that children can be fussy eaters, but then you see a child devouring smoked salmon, olives or blue cheese. What is the most exotic thing that your child eats?
I think every parent says their child is a picky eater because they won’t eat something they made them that day or they don’t enjoy a certain food as much as their other children. My kids definitely have their “fussy” days but the most “exotic” thing my children have ever eaten was lamp shanks.
What is one food that you avoid feeding to your children, and why?
The only food we avoid feeding our children is pork, just for religious purposes. We are Jewish and don’t eat non-kosher meat.
Who is your favourite celebrity chef, and why?
My favourite celebrity chef has got to be Jamie Oliver. His food is so delicious looking, easy, mostly one pot cooking which is a moms best friend and he uses ingredients I have in my pantry which I try and do as well in my recipes.
I hope that you enjoyed learning a bit about Rebecca Raskusin, the founder of Bites for Tots, and I hope that you’ll be back to meet another of my online friends in the coming weeks.
