One upon a time, I spent my nights drinking and dancing up a storm at Trinity Bar. In fact on of my uni friends had drinks for her 21st birthday there and we stayed on drinking with the staff and dancing on the bar until the wee hours of the morn – but as a sign of the times it actually no longer exists. What you’ll now find in it’s place is one of the best pizza places in Canberra – Walter G’s.
When we were kids, my Dad would take us down to the local pizza shop to watch the old men make the pizzas. I remember that the man throwing the pizza dough would always give us a little piece to play with whilst our pizza was cooking. I loved the ‘show’ that he would put on, throwing the dough as high as he could and singing about all the pizza toppings.
I can tell you now that the toppings of the 1990’s did not compare to the wonderus range that Walter G’s has on offer!
Obsessed with sourcing the best of natural and local produce – their chicken is free range, lamb and beef pasture fed and all of their meats including their pork are hormone & antibiotic free. Thinking of a seafood option? Well it’s also great to know that their prawns are Australian and wild caught.
All of their vegetables are cut and prepared fresh – never from a can. And their dough is mixed and kneaded by hand everyday to ensure the base and crust are just perfect.
This delicious pizza place is definietly moving with the times as you’ll find multiple ‘base’ options including; a gluten free base, low carb grain free base and a wholemeal spelt base.
In fact you can even create a vegan option or two!
Now, by the time I go around to compiling this post we have been to Walter G’s multiple times and introduced a few Canberra friends to our favourites {whilst always picking a new pizza or two – as I’d like to make my way through the entire menu before we move to Sydney}.
I highly recommend the cheesy garlic and herb bread – which is actually a pizza { garlic based, topped with fresh mixed herbs and mozzarella – $9}. This goes down well with the adults and children alike. And is super garlicky – which the family and I really appreciated.
Another favourite of ours was the smokey shredded pork { smokey BBQ base, free range shredded pork, chunky cut pineapple pieces, garnished with a fresh Asian style slaw and garlic aioli – $18}.
And the sweet beef brisket – gluten free option available, pictured below { tomato base, grass fed beef brisket, fresh capsicum, roasted red capsicum, caramelised onions topped with mozzerella, garnished with honey mustard and fresh rocket leaves – $18}
What’s also really nice to know, is that at the moment, a $1 from every kid’s pizza sold is going to Camp Quality. Another awesome reason to order a pizza or two for dinner tonight!
So tell me, have you tried out Walter G’s yet? What’s your favourite pizza on their menu? Did you have an awesome experience? What other Canberra places should I put on the list to eat at prior to moving to Sydney?
