Is it just me or do these ‘In my kitchen’ posts seem to be coming around quicker and quicker as we draw closer to the end of the year? So many wonderful things to share with you this month. Welcome September and WELCOME Spring {although, I must admit that it has felt like Spring in Sydney for us Canberrans since we moved up}.
We can now officially call ourselves Sydney-siders as we changed over our license. What a hassle! As I had already held a NSW license under my maiden name I forgot that I would need to take my marriage certificate along to the RTA to get my updated license. When I rocked up the lady informed me that I ‘wasn’t a person under my married name’ {boy, didn’t my husband get a chuckle out of that!}
I can also now officially say that I can not see my toes anymore. We are on the final count down and my baby bump is so great that my toes are missing from my usual ‘bump and toes’ shots.
As you may or may not be aware, Celia from Fig Jam and Lime Cordial is no longer hosting ‘In My Kitchen’ and has handed the baton over to Maureen at The Orgasmic Chef. Check out Maureen’s blog to see who else in joining in to the ‘In My Kitchen’ link up.

I purchased a whole lot of beautiful dinnerware from Replay Recycled from Trendy Lil Treats. I’d seen a few other people on Instagram serving up their little one’s breakfast, lunch and dinner with these beautiful wares and I knew that we seemed to be running short on plates/bowls/spoons/cups – with the boys eating so regularly and our dishwasher being so small, we are planning on getting one of the stainless steel washers. So I placed an order online and I couldn’t be happier with what I picked.
Re-Play plates, bowls, utensils, and cups are made out of recycled HDPE plastic – basically that means milk bottles! All Re-Play dishware is available in a wide variety of colours and sets. From snack stacks and no spill sippy cups, to divided and flat plates, each product is designed with the 5 tenets of responsibility in mind: sustainability, affordability, functionality, durability and safety.

I’ve picked up a few extra ‘birth congrats’ cards… It seems we were all very busy approximately nine months ago. I’ve sent off two gifts to cousins, another friend just had a baby and another is due shortly after me. I just spring is the time for new birth.

I’m playing with chia seeds. Chia seeds are a “whole grain” food, are usually grown organically, are non-GMO and naturally free of gluten. Bottom Line: Despite their tiny size, chia seeds are among the most nutritious foods on the planet. They are loaded with fiber, protein,Omega-3 fatty acids and various micronutrients.
I have been playing around with a few ‘overnight chia pudding’ recipes which you’ll see up on the blog this month. I also have been busy making CookingForBusyMum’s choc orange and chia cookies {which I have then updated to make refined sugar and gluten free so my sister could enjoy them too}.

You’ll find me dishing up some ‘sheet-pan’ dinners {which I actually cook in a baking dish}. Sheet-pan dinners appeal to me because they are ultra simple to assemble – just pop everything into a pan, pop into an oven at 180 degrees for 15-40 minutes {depending on what protein/veggies you’re using} and you’ll have a fantastic meal {with minimal washing up}.
Not to mention, when you cook a meal like this, you can pop a piece of baking paper under it all to aid in making your washing up for the night super easy! #Ilovekitchenhacks
In my September kitchen…
I’m eating way too much of Mayver’s ‘Almond, coconut and cacao spread’… because it is just so delicious and it hits the pregnancy cravings spot without being too naughty. I have also worked with using this in a delicious ‘no-bake slice’ recipe that you’ll find on the blog in September.

I’m making preparations for baby number three – so I have been flicking through this beautiful monochrome baby book that I was sent from Blueberry + Co, whilst enjoying a delicious overnight chia pudding. This pudding is topped with fresh banana, blueberries, strawberries, LSA and almond butter {I think that I might be slightly addicted to Mayver’s almond butter}.
I really don’t want to miss out on remembering all of the little things that I have recorded for the boys – because this is number three and I am running around like a chook with my head chopped off, trying to keep everything/everyone going and keep all my other balls in the air. This baby book is beautiful and modern and not to cutesy.

I’m packing Redbelly Citrus blood oranges into everything, after we were delivered a delicious box of them. So far, they have been incorporated into some choc-orange and chia biscuits and some almond cake and snack time in general. But I want to have a go at a tea and blood orange brined chicken – be sure to check back on the blog in September to see how that one works out!!

I’m loving all the nuts that I am picking up from the Ramsgate Foodies Market {and so are the boys}. I really enjoyed the smoked almonds. I think that they have been my favourite so far. These would come a close second – they are honey and vanilla cashews {sounds amazing, right?}.
Have you been hitting up your local farmers market this month? Have you tried the Ramsgate Foodie Markets? Have you had any pregnancy cravings? Should I be trying out any places to shop in Sydney, now that we are feeling a little more settled? Have you tried anything new in your kitchen this month?

I love the look of your sheet pan dinner… I keep seeing these pop up, but haven’t really experimented yet. I’ll have to spend some time on google and see what I can find to inspire – can you recommend any meat-free combinations? The plasticware looks lovely, and so very useful too.

I’ve got a few chicken combos and a fish combo coming up on the blog. I haven’t thought about a meat-free combination – but I guess this would be an option: https://goodfoodweek.com.au/2016/06/recipe-veggie-frittata/

I love chia seeds in baking and smoothies and I have blood oranges but still trying to work out what do do with them. That hope plasticware is beautiful and so is your baby book. Sounds like interesting times in your house with moving to sydney and expecting your new baby – good luck with all the changes

Thanks Johanna – you’ll have to pop back throughout this month to see how I use my blood oranges 🙂

I like the sheet pan dinner idea. Great way to use “stuff” up without wasting it. What is the meat in the dish above?
Shari from GoodFoodWeek says
Hi Joleene, I’ve used chicken thighs in the sheet pan dinner image above. I shall have this recipe – and a few other sheet pan/baking-tray dinner recipes up in the coming month. I have used chicken breasts, italian sausages and even fish.

I enjoyed your pics! I’m jealous, I want a marble and wood board too. I have to try your sheet pan dinner. It’s like cooking for lazy! And that’s me!!!! As a slow cooker but in the oven? very clever! xx cathy

Thanks so much Cathy. I love my marble and wood board – it was a gift {I think I need another}. The sheet pan dinners or oven tray dinners and super simple and definitely for those who want to cook a healthy dinner for the family, but are feeling lazy xox
