As you may or may not be aware, Celia from Fig Jam and Lime Cordial is no longer hosting ‘In My Kitchen’ and has handed the baton over to Maureen at The Orgasmic Chef. However, Maureen hasn’t been posting since July and I really miss seeing all of the ‘IMK’ posts {and even though I try to get around to as many as I can remember – my pregnancy brain is doing me no favours!}.
Please comment and leave your ‘IMK’ link below if you see this post – because I really don’t want to miss out on seeing your ‘IMK’ blog post if you write one!
In my October kitchen…
I’ve got Australian asparagus and they most certainly are delicious. I didn’t want to promote the Australian spears at the beginning of September when I received a delivery of them, as often the first spears of the season are normally imported at your local supermarket {and I didn’t want to you miss out on getting the Australian grown}.
Did you know that 95% of Australia’s asparagus is grown in Victoria and that 70% of the Australian crop is consumed on the domestic market? And that each spear is harvested by hand when just at the right length?
That’s a lot of man hours – so support our local asparagus farmers and pick up a bunch today. I’ll have a few recipes throughout the month of October for you to use them up in. But really they are so good that you can simply create your own gluten free boiled eggs and soldiers, by using some lightly grilled asparagus spears instead of toast – delicious! I plan to buy a new countertop for my kitchen, it will big huge, you can see countertops options on the website. I’m not sure yet which one I buy.

I’ve got dried sour cherries that we pick up from the Ramsgate Foodies Market.
Sour cherries are great straight out of the bag, or used in baking. Try adding in tart cherries to salads, trail mix, and granola. They add a delicious tart and fruity flavour to cookies, scones, breads, and other baked treats or try them sprinkled over yogurt and porridge {in fact I have a great almond milk and sour cherry porridge recipe coming up on the blog}.
Tart cherries go well paired with cheese, nuts, and other dried fruit. They also make an interesting addition to chicken salads, pasta salads, and vegetable dishes.

I’m trying out some new products from Harvest Box. These can simply be picked up from your local supermarket {or delivered to your front door}. I think that this is something that will come in handy whilst I am breast feeding a newborn – I mean, Mums need to eat and who doesn’t love a healthy preprepared snack?
Waaaay back in 2010, three Aussie best mates {Will, James and George} decided they were a bit over chips and chocolate and realised that, if they wanted healthier snack options, other folks probably did too. So they set up harvest box and started devising healthy mixes of dried fruit, seeds, crackers and treats to send all over Australia in natty cardboard boxes. Snackers around the country were overjoyed to have nutritious nibbles delivered to their homes and desks every week – yay! (Like the sound of Harvest Boxes? Find out more here.)
Best of all, I might have a little giveaway with Harvest Box coming up soon – so make sure you check back in the month of October!

I’ve got this delicious smooth peanut butter from Pic’s Peanut Butter. They were sent out in my Marley Spoon box and I’ve been adding this peanut butter to all kinds of delicious treats! Think into greek yoghurt to make a tasty dip to enjoy with apple slices, on top of delicious over night chia seed puddings, and into various baked treats.
Victoria from Boiled Eggs and Soldiers inspired me with her honey butter loaf and then I updated the recipe by adding a 1/4 cup of peanut butter to make a delicious peanut butter and honey loaf {which I then made three of in two days because it was such a hit with the family}. I mean, who doesn’t love peanut butter?

I’ve really been enjoying the delicious treats from Franjo’s Kitchen.
Franjo’s Kitchen is a collaboration between Fran and Jo. Fran is a lawyer and mum to baby Margot and 3 year old Phoebe. Jo is a naturopath, nutritionist and wellness consultant and mum to twin babies Florence and Charles and 3 year old Matilda.
Back in 2013 Fran and Jo were each out walking with their babies Phoebe and Matilda. They met at the traffic lights, got chatting, decided to walk together and the rest is history.
Fran’s background is in corporate retail as a lawyer and has a passion for food, juggling writing breakfast reviews, food columns and running pop up restaurants, and reading different POS reviews to get the best point of sale for a restaurant. Jo is an experienced naturopath, nutritionist and wellness consultant with an obvious zeal for her craft who was embarking on a journey of developing nutritious and health promoting food products. Once they got chatting, Franjo’s Kitchen seemed obvious, they could combine their experiences and skills and create something wonderful.
Fran and Jo are passionate about creating a healthy snack business for new mums and their families and excited about what the future holds.
And I’ve also got a great giveaway during October where one lucky reader has the opportunity to win a great care package containing all of the amazing products from Franjo’s Kitchen.

We are playing around with salads – because it sure is salad weather {YAY}.
Have you been hitting up your local farmers market this month? Have you tried the Ramsgate Foodie Markets? Have you had any pregnancy cravings? Should I be trying out any places to shop in Sydney, now that we are feeling a little more settled? Have you tried anything new in your kitchen this month?
