March, where did you come from? I feel like it was just yesterday that we were talking about moving to Sydney and I just worked out yesterday that we only have 12 weeks left on our current rental. I need to decided what we are going to do in terms of our living arrangements ASAP. March brings a couple of birthdays and the start of Lent {which means that we are delayed again organising the Z man’s baptism…sorry third child}.
If you are interested in seeing what other lovely bloggers have in their kitchen this month, then head over to Liz from Bizzy Lizzy’s Good Things who is now hosting this great link up! Liz and I go way back on the Canberra blogging scene so it is great to see her picking up the hosting duties – and I’m just so excited to see everyone’s IMK posts this month.

I’m making the most of the last of the mangoes. I have found that our local supermarket has had a large in take of ‘ugly’ mangoes. Upon researching more about this ‘ugly’ fruit and veggies, I found out that about a third of the planet’s food goes to waste, often because of its looks. For a cleaner and a more economical way to dispose wastes, it is recommended to use PHS Wastekit‘s Balers and Recycling Compactors. That’s enough to feed two billion people! Do you think that this fruit and veg below looks ugly now with its skin removed? Definitely something to think about {especially if you want to reduce the amount of money you spend on fruit and veggies}.

I will be incorporating these delicious pots of mashed apple and mango from Organix into a fabulous breakfast waffle that the whole family will enjoy. I love waffles because I find them so quick and easy to whip up in the morning. If you don’t have time to stew your own fruits or you want to incorporate a fruit that isn’t in season, then why not give something like this a go? This month I also installed a new single handle kitchen faucet with sprayer to make clean up much easier.

I am reducing the amount of meat that we eat each week and trying to increase our meat-free days to at least two a week. This means that I am trying to pull out a few golden oldies from the blog archives – like these ricotta gnocchi {also awesome to make with a little set of hands to help. This bowl was created with the little dude whilst Mr Moo was at preschool and Z man was napping}.

We are plowing through the new flavour kombucha from Remedy. Actually, I think that I could be addicted to kombucha! Kombucha is an adaptogen, which means it brings the body back into balance so that it can heal itself, rather than focusing on one particular ailment or organ.
Kombucha contains naturally fermenting probiotics that help maintain healthy gut flora by increasing the number of beneficial organisms. And it preserves nutrients and breaks them down into an easily digestible form, which allows you to absorb them better. I mean, what’s not to love about kombucha? Even my kids are enjoying it.

We will explore more ways to get broccoli into every meal – I mean, if the kids will eat it, I will make it. I know a lot of people aren’t fans of the old broccoli, but my boys love it and I think that if I can offer it up to other’s in new and exciting ways – they just might give it a go. I mean, I got a lot of four year olds eating carrot the other day at preschool and one mother even told me her daughter wouldn’t eat carrot so I shouldn’t be disappointed if she thought my food was yuck. Actually, no one used the word yuck in our class.
In my March kitchen,
I’ve been sent a couple of starters to give sourdough baking a go. I can’t wait to try these out – Z man is sleeping more regularly and I think that as the weather cools down, this will be a really nice thing to do with the boys. Thanks so much to Sandra from Please pass the recipe and Giulia from Love at every bite xox
