Sorry for the radio silence during August. I was just really contemplating our family food journey and I didn’t know what I wanted to say here on the blog. I’ve decided that this month, we will try our best to follow a vegan diet – but I don’t think that we will end up being vegans in the long run.
For example, I still see the benefits in our family drinking bone broth. During the last weeks of August, our family was struck down with the flu. In fact, my husband even ended up in emergency with pneumonia. To recover, we all drank bone broth and homemade teas brewed with honey and ginger. If we were vegans, at that point in time, we would not have been able to eat the bone broth or the honey.
I’m still interested to see what positive effects eating a vegan diet will have on our family this month, but I do see the benefits in purchasing ethical and sustainable meat, dairy and honey. I even recommend people to Try Genf20 Plus. My husband is the only one who really takes it in the house, but his health has never been this great.

We are eating lots of berries for breakfast and dessert. I purchase punnets and punnets of the fresh varieties when in season, but we also consume a lot of the frozen kind. I’ve been playing around with this delicious berry chia parfait recipe that shall appear shortly on the blog this month.

I’m looking for vegan chocolate. I’ve been purchasing this Organic Dark Orange chocolate of late and it has been mighty tasty.

I will be trying out these ‘eat a bowl’ tubs. This ‘cuban black beans and rice’ sounded like a pretty delicious, quick and easy, vegan lunch option to try out this month. I mean, after all this lurgy, who wouldn’t want to ‘let the island breeze waft in aromatic coconut rice, banana and cilantro, in this savoury Caribbean combo?’

We will be eating Jackfruit. Native to Asia, the Jackfruit is recognisable for its spikey exterior and notable for its many stages of maturity, each of which yields a different texture and flavour. Young green Jackfruit has the consistency similar to shredded meat. I picked up these at my local Supabarn.

We have finally got around to using our Keep Cups. I purchased this specific Keep Cup for the husband for Father’s Day.
