And that’s a wrap…

December 30, 2017 by Shari

Wow 2017, what a year. Not in a – wow, ‘we did amazing things’ way. Kinda more in a – ‘shit, I am so glad that I am still standing way!’ No wait – we did do some pretty amazing things. They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and so I feel like concrete rounding out this year – so shall we review it together {or at least for my own purposes}.

A year filled with; three little boys, two businesses in two different states, a part time job for me working remotely and this blog and its social media commitments.

A year of breast feeding – so much breast feeding. A year of preschool for my eldest. A year of parks, parks and more parks. A year of the beach  – slowly at first, because you can’t really check a newborn on the beach for very long {especially when you’ve also got a 2yr old and a 3yr old and are solo parenting}…but really making headway towards the end of the year. A year of trips back and forth to Canberra, in an effort to actually see Daddy. A year of growth and change – so much change.

We managed to get past the ‘growth issue’ with breast feeding. Mr Moo thrived at preschool. We made lots of trips into Mr Perkins to see Daddy. And the boys swam their little hearts out.

We spent a lot of time at the park – a new day, a new park. The Little Dude was toilet trained. The boys loved kicking the soccer ball. And Mr Moo turned four! I felt a little isolated after having so many great friends and kid’s activities down in Canberra – but I didn’t know how I was going to fit anything else into our already ‘full’ scheduled – which was just me driving…driving all the time.

We all drank a LOT of bone broth. The Z man was baptised. And then I got glandular fever because I was so run down with solo parenting and saw that some things needed to change. I dusted myself off and started to make plans. I got to work with some really cool brands and meet some really cool people because of this very blog.

Many cafe dates were had – many babycinos, chocolate milkshakes and soy lattes were consumed. We headed to the snow for two mini breaks. Mr Moo attended ski school for the first time. The Little Dude also got on ski for the first time. I also got to ski for the first time since having children…oh and Daddy got pneumonia. We took monthly trips to the Zoo – often with our friends.

The Little Dude turned three. We closed the Mr Perkins shopfront in Bondi – but are still proceeding with online orders and UberEATS/Deliveroo. I ran an Annual Awards Night down in Canberra and got to get all dressed up. Z man turned one. I don’t know why, but things seem to dramatically get easier when you have a 1 year old.

The end of the year hit us with lightning speed and many ideas for 2018. I can’t believe how far we have come in a year and I can’t wait to see what 2018 has install for us all.

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
