Hello reader, my old friend. I have come to talk with you again. I’m sorry for the radio silence over the last month. Big things were happening in the GoodFoodWeek household – or maybe that’s just life as we know it right now? Life was hectic – I’m not sure that they have become any less hectic, but I’m starting to find my feet…and I missed you, so I am here.
I thought that it would be cooling down in the kitchen, but frankly we have still been spending our weekends at the beach, swimming in the ocean. I haven’t really made the switch yet to warmer, more comforting foods…it’s still BBQ’s and grilled fish with salad and light summery foods for us – but now that I have written that down, I expect it all to change!

Super excited to find these delicious prickly pears at my local Supabarn. I’d only ever eaten them at a friend’s place, where her Dad had prepared them so that they were no longer prickly. Unfortunately, the first time I gave it a go, I was prickled big time. But thanks to a quick shout out on Instagram, I was directed to an awesome Youtube clip and I have been devouring them prickle free all month.

There is birthday cake! It’s my son’s fifth birthday and my husband’s 34th birthday this April. As always I will whip up a gluten free Anneand plenty of chocolate buttercream and she will be shaped into the boy’s dream cake. I’m glad that Mr Moo has chosen the number five out of the Woman’s Weekly cookbook and not the duck like Simone’s daughter.

I’m still a sucker for a bagel and you can’t go past the perfect, traditional combination of smoked salmon and cream cheese. I’ve jazzed this multigrain bagel up with thinly sliced cucumber, spring onion, dill, caper berries and toasted sunflower seeds.

We are still loving a cheese platter. Maybe the faithful cheese platter won’t go by the wayside with the change of seasons. I mean, there is nothing better then a nice glass of red and a cheese platter in front of the fire when we are at the snow.

We are in love with tempura! The kids love tempura EVERYTHING. So we eat the rainbow in all of our veggies and have it with a little steamed rice and some of this deliciously simple dipping sauce that I will share the recipe with you this month.
