Happy Birthday Mr Moo. My heart breaks for you that this is a birthday in isolation. You were meant to be going to a gifted and talented, math and science program for your birthday. We’d spent our evenings discussing all of the courses on offer and you’d picked the one you wanted to attend. But that was all cancelled because of Covid-19.
There might not have been class cupcakes or science classes – but we did our very best to keep that spirit alive. I ordered lots of space experiments to complete at home and I made you the pokemon ball cake you requested. We joined family via zoom to sing you happy birthday and everyone dressed up to make it extra special.
I promised you that no matter what date you return to school, be it June, September or November – I would make you birthday cupcakes to take to school. We added that to our special jar of all the things we will do when Covid-19 is over.
But this post is really about capturing all the amazing traits you’ve developed throughout the year…
To my first baby, thank you for being the kind, passionate, determined, studious, excitable, thoughtful little boy that you are. You smashed kindy! Embracing reading and writing and math with a the thirst for knowledge in all areas of science.
You’ll call up Nanny to ask what the next soundwave would be, so that you could be ahead of the class. You’d sing us the soundwaves at the dinner table each night and demonstrate the ways in which you could count – forwards, backwards, by twos and by fives.
I loved hearing you teach you brother to do the things that you had now mastered, as you lay in your beds each night. I’m sure that you were preparing him to smash kindy the following year.
You continue to do well in the pool and we have spoken about adding Nippers to the schedule this year when summer rolls around. You’re getting stronger at swimming at the beach and it has been a delight to take you out into the deeper waters and watch you ride the boogie board.
We welcomed another baby brother no long after your sixth birthday and it was a joy to watch you develop this bond. As you held him for the very fist time, you whispered into his ear ‘welcome to the family, we are hummers’ and then began to hum softy into his ear.
We are a family of hummers and lovers of music and dance. I love to hear you sing and watch you dance around the kitchen at dinner time. I hope you look back on these simple times as fondly as I do/will continue to do.
So happy birthday mate. I love you to the moon and back. I’ll always do my best to keep you safe and I’ll always let you climb into our bed for cuddles when the little ones have been put to bed. I love you Mr Moo xox
