The Hospitality Establishment

March 30, 2014 by Shari

A few days ago, I had the pleasure of attending The Hospitality Establishment with my Mum to partake in their Dumpling making course. This isn’t a sponsored post, however I was lucky enough to recieve the evening as a Christmas gift from my brother! And let’s just say that the night was so amazing that I would love to book into a few more nights.

Mum and I chose the dumplings class because it said that it would be really hands on and that’s what we wanted – we wanted to be able to participate. I was plesently surprised that we were not only able to participate in the class, but the recipes were tailored so that we would easily be able to go home and recreate them by ourselves!

What you cook on the night will also be your dinner – and let me just say that we were certainly stuffed when we left! There was a delicious pork and wombok salad for entree, followed by dumplings, then a delicious duck masterstock with duck dumplings, and we finished with a chocolate fondant.
We were shown how to create two dumpling fillings (1.chicken and shitaki mushroom and 2. prawn and crab) which we then folded in various ways for the three cooking techniques – we could choose to steam, deep fry or pan fry our dumplings.
The duck masterstock was amazing – and when we were given the recipe, appeared to be simple to recreate. It was all about choosing fresh ingredients and working on finding the best roast duck in your area. It was delicious and warming and I bet it would make you feel maraciously better if you were feeling ill. I think it will become my go to soup for winter!

This was a great night out with my mum – but it would also make a great night out with your partner or with a group of girls. You can buy gift certificates – hint hint nudge nudge my husband! And I would highly recommend this for a foodie in your life!

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
