500 posts: Can you believe it?

June 25, 2014 by Shari Leave a Comment

I’ve been reading a few posts by different bloggers about ‘why the blog’, and ‘how to grow your audience’, and making sure that other’s aren’t trying to steal your audience… And it got me thinking about this blog and why I started and how my audience has evolved.
This blog was predominately about cooking – and I guess it is still. I’ve tried to branch out a little and include my journey of motherhood and more life/current event topics, which I hope people are enjoying.

I’ve been blessed to work with some amazing producers and been lucky enough to be provided with some free products to try – which is awfully helpful when you are a stay-at-home-mum trying to make ends meet (after having a great paying job).

But I thought it would be interesting to see which posts have been the most popular and so, here they are my top 5 from 500:

RECIPE: TUNA MORNAY (from March 2013). A revamped classic, which had me second guessing my opinion of Tuna Mornay.

RECIPE: SAN CHOY BOW (from November 2012). I think of san choy bow as an Asian spaghetti bolognese or an Asian taco – basically, you can hide all kinds of veggies in this little meal and you get to make it and eat it with your hands. And what kid wouldn’t enjoy that!

RECIPE SWAP: CHOCOLATE MOCHA PAVOLVA ROLL (from April 2011). This is from a great series that I completed with mainly American bloggers. And it makes me think it is something that I would like to get into again if other bloggers are interested/already doing something similar.

RECIPE: TWICE COOKED PORK BELLY (from August 2013). You know a meal is good when it gets a compliment or two. You know a meal is really good when your partner continues to go on and on about it… and he sure was pleased when I served him up this twice cooked pork belly …

THOUGHTS: MUMMY BLOGGERS AND GOMI (from December 2012). My thoughts on mummy blogger and GOMI prior to being a mummy!

I hope that you enjoy discovering or rediscovering some of my post popular posts and I hope that you’ll be around for the next 500 posts!

Get in my belly… I’ve been reading a lot abou Get in my belly…

I’ve been reading a lot about self love of late. I feel like there is so much self sacrifice when you’re a mother, and yet I am starting to realise that I need to love myself first to be a better mum and partner.

So here is to starting with something small for me. These @byronbaycookies are the business!!
Self love sometimes looks like just surging up lef Self love sometimes looks like just surging up leftovers and taking yourself to bed with a good book.

And the toasted bagel thins I made using @thebagelco_australia which I order through @delishdeliveries (why isn’t there a chef’s kiss emoji??)
Still eating hot crossed buns - making the most of Still eating hot crossed buns - making the most of lazy mornings and short work weeks…

However, I still seem to feel that mum guilt. I mean, I think I need to do a little more than just follow @drsophiebrock (@smallbusinessgrowthclub has so many good things to say about Sophie)… am I doing enough? Are they happy? Am I creating good memories for them? Am I giving them good life skills and coping tactics? Am I creating enough one on one time with each of them?

I know I’m a people pleaser, a perfectionist (and some … scrap that… most people I know say I am also an over achiever). How do I flip my thinking to focus more on the positive and not be so critical of myself? As I don’t want to pass on this trait to my kids.

Again @delishdeliveries did the majority of the work in preparing the Bulgogi beef.

Boil the rice. Stir fry the beef. Toss some gem lettuce with black sesame seeds and sushi seasoning. Top it all off with kimchi.

Mine was store bought. @staceyclare_healthcoach have you ever made your own kimchi? Have you got a good recipe?

Shari from GoodFoodWeek

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
