Review: Menulog

August 8, 2014 by Shari

So if you’ve been watching the news you would know that it’s been cold in Canberra lately. I’m talking we had our lowest low (-8 degrees) in 20 years and that means I don’t want to leave the house. Especially, when it’s cold, dark and sleeting outside – so when Menulog came to me to see if I would trial their service and blog about it, I jumped at the opportunity.

It was a cold night and my husband was heading out to an awards night. It had been a long week and I’ll I wanted to do was pop my p.j’s on. And with the help of Menulog – the number one website for online takeaway – that’s just what I was able to do!

Menulog is an Australian online restaurant take-out ordering and food delivery service, the alternative to Foodpanda. One simple website hosts over 3500 restaurants with around 11,000 specials and over 100,000 restaurant reviews. This is take-out on a whole new level and yet surprisingly simple to use.

I decided that I wanted to be transported (through an awesome takeaway meal) to somewhere where I had hot and happy memories and I jumped at the chance to be taken back to Malaysia… ‘Cause let’s face it – Chinese and Thai have kinda been done to death.

I preordered online from our local Malaysian takeaway.

As I had been given a $30 voucher for the review I ordered way too much food for just me and Mr Moo – but it was truly delicious and we made the most of it (including the next day).

I ordered the satay chicken sticks ($12.20), tofu goreng ($5.90), chicken nasi lemak curry ($14.90), beef nasi lemak rendang ($15.80), chicken flavoured rice ($3.50) and roti ($2.50).

The chicken sticks and tofu starters were perfect to share with Mr Moo as they weren’t too spicy if I didn’t add the extra sauces. And then he pretty much devoured the entire chicken flavoured rice by himself. I love a great place where you can order food for both adults and children (and I’m wondering what toddler doesn’t love rice).

The nasi lemaks took me straight back to eating street food in Malaysia. They were delicious and the only issue I had was that I didn’t have enough roti – but let’s face it, can you ever have too much roti?

So basically, would I use Menulog again to order takeaway – MOST DEFINITELY!

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
