Recipe: a breakfast smoothie

October 29, 2014 by Shari

I am a big fan of breast feeding – you may or may not have picked that up in some of my most recent posts. I think a lot about what I put into my body whilst breast feeding – because it is turning into the milk which I am then providing for my newborn. I’ve really been enjoying this breakfast smoothie lately as it is easy to drink, provides lots of energy and most importantly it is tasty!

I thought that some of you may be interested in seeing the little Dude in all his glory – so here is an image of him below. Check out all of that hair!

A BREAKFAST SMOOTHIE
1 cup of water
1/2 cup of almond milk*
1 tablespoon of flax seed
1 cup of raspberries
1 banana
1/4 cup of spinach
1/4 cup of organic oats*
2 tablespoons of lemon juice
Place everything in a food processor and blend for at least 5 minutes or until smooth. Drink! Simple!
*Special thanks to Pureharvest who provided me with a hamper of their products to try. I have been using their dairy alerternative milks and juices in my smoothies each morning and they are GREAT!

Yes – perfect for crazy mornings. When I have time, some times I make smoothie snaplocks. I freeze all the ingredients to make a single smoothie – like the fruits /oats/seeds/yoghurt and then all you need to do on the morning is pull it out, add your liquid and blitz. Lovely and cold in the summertime.

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
