I’m back talking about what Mums can wear whilst breastfeeding – because frankly, there aren’t enough posts like it out there on the internet. Mums are often pressured to breast feed their babies and our society is busy promoting the ‘breast is best’ message… but it often feels like people don’t want to see you breast feed in public or enable you to breast feed in their clothes.
People say ‘just look for clothing with buttons down the front,’ but the fact of the matter is that if you’re feeding a size 10 shirt fits you everywhere else probably won’t do up over your milk engorged breasts – so here I am to help you out!
My top tips this week with regards to what to wear whilst breastfeeding {and remaining fashionable whilst doing so} is to layer. And we are super lucky to be in the season where some big named fashion brands are creating layering for us.
I was shopping in Country Road last week and I came across this navy dress {as seen below}. This is a great piece for breast feeding because you can slip one of the shoulders of the slip underneth off and then there is actually enough room in the broderie detailing dress to pop a boob out over the top.
*Don’t you think my neice is super cute!
I paired my navy dress with a great scarf {also from Country Road} which adds colour to my outfit and also acts as a feeding cover. You can find more great uses for a scarf in my first ‘what to wear – breast feeding post’.

Now, you probably won’t find too many ‘breast feeding friendly’ dresses around town. So my favourite option for summer are the great pants out this season. I’ve got a pair from Seed on in the images below – but I have also purchased these kind of pants from Country Road and Sussans.
Start with a simple singlet and then layer with a light/summer friendly top. Think something oversized – because it will be easy to find as that look is in at the moment, but it will also give you room to maneuver your breasts for feeding or pop bub underneath to feed!
I have demonstrated two options in the photos below. The first is a great oversized linen shirt from Bohemian Traders and the second is a cotton knitted top from Country Road {although I did purchase it three summers ago}.
I’d love to see some of your breast feeding friendly outfits… so why not follow me on Instagram and use the hashtag #breastfeedingfriendly. What are some of your tips for wearing fashionable clothes whilst breast feeding?
