Recipe: Monday meal ideas – make a meatloaf

July 27, 2015 by Shari

Do you enjoy meatloaf {and I’m not taking about Michael Lee Aday ,the American musician and actor better known by his stage name Meat Loaf}? The meatloaf has European origins; meatloaf of minced meat was mentioned in the famous Roman cookery collection ‘Apicius’ as early as the 5th century. But it seems like most countries have a version of meatloaf.

Austrians like to wrap their meatloaf in ham. Cuban meatloaf is often stuffed with hard boiled eggs. In Italy, meatloaf is called polpettone and can be filled with eggs or ham and cheese. Philippinos will slice and fry their meatloaf and serve it for breakfast.

Where as Puerto Rican style meatloaf is made with ground pork, beef, turkey, adobo, worcestershire sauce, milk, ketchup, potatoes, red beans, breadcrumb, parsley, with a hard-boiled egg in the middle.

In 2007, meatloaf was voted the seventh-favorite dish in the United States according to Good Housekeeping.
We don’t mind a little meatloaf here at GoodFoodWeek, so for today’s meal ideas I have provided you with four of our favourite meatloaf recipes.

Pork and apple meatloaf with sage crumbs
Pork, cauliflower and cabbage meatloaf
Chorizo meatloaf
Turkey meatloaf
Do you make your own meatloaf? Have you ever seen a seafood meatloaf? Where are you drawing your meal inspiration from lately {Have you seen that LandofZonkt and BoiledEggsandSoliders are hosting a link up ‘Your Weekly Feed’} ?

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
