Life: Sisterhood of the World – A Blog Award

September 18, 2015 by Shari 21 Comments

The lovely Sammie from The Annoyed Thyroid nominated me for the Sisterhood of the World Blogging Award. I was very humbled to be amongst such an awesome group of nominees including; Jess from A Little Part of the World ,  Jo from You Had Us at Hello, Shannon from My 2Morrows, Vicki from Boiled Eggs and Soldiers, Karin from Calm to Conniption, Shannon from Oh Creative Day, Dr Sash from From The Left Field, Nicole from The Builder’s Wife and Kim from Land of Zonkt.

Basically, Sammie had to answer 10 questions from her award nominator and then she asks 10 questions to her award nominees. So here are my answers to Sammie’s 10 questions. I hope that you enjoy learning a little more about me:

And then here are my 10 questions for my award nominees:

1.    Savoury or sweet?

I think I would have to say savoury if I am cooking it and sweet if I don’t have to put in any effort.

2.    My food nemesis is tofu. What’s yours?

That would have to be kale. Some people like to call it a ‘super food’, I just think that it is super disgusting. I’ve tried cooking with it and eating it in meals that I have purchases and I just think it is a waste of time. Ain’t nobody got time for food that isn’t delicious {even if it is nutritious}.

3.    What’s your speciality a la maison?

That’s a hard one – I think our friend would request me to make ribs the most when they come for dinner. But I am also known for my lasanga, my Nutella cheesecake and my pavlova roll.

4.    If you had to eat one food for the rest of your life what would it be?

I don’t think I could do it. I was thinking about soy and linseed toast with mashed avocado and fetta from The Cheese Project, but how could I never enjoy that same toast with mascarpone and cranberries? Oh not to mention that picking toast to eat for the rest of your life just seems crazy when Australia has so many great culinary treats.

5.    If you could have dinner with a famous person, who would it be and where would you go?

I’d love to have dinner with Jamie Oliver in his original restaurant in London. I’ve never been to England {even though I have been to Europe a few times}. And I would love to meet Jamie and feast on his culinary knowledge.

6. What dish would you make if you were auditioning for Masterchef?

I auditioned for Masterchef with Andy Allen {the winner of series 4} and made the top 100. I made a pork entrée – similar to this recipe here – it’s really hard because you have to take the food cooked and cooled, to be assembled in front of the judges {and eaten cold}. So it isn’t like you can anything you like from your repertoire.

7. What’s the best restaurant you’ve ever been to?

That’s also a tough one – I think it would be a tie between three places:

·      Sepia in Sydney, Australia when I finished up working for the University of Sydney.

·       Astrid & Gastón in Lima, Peru when I finished up trekking through South America for 6 weeks {little did I know that it was actually one of Lima’s top gastronomic restaurants when I rocked up in my Gorex, no makeup and my braid falling out}.

·      Courgette in Canberra for an anniversary dinner.

8. What’s the best holiday you’ve ever had?

My honeymoon – travelling through Europe for 8 weeks – we saw Italy, Croatia, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Germany. We caught up with family, we ate everything, we saw amazing things and we conceived Mr Moo!

9. Are you an early bird or a night owl?

I have never been an early bird. I’m pretty happy that both of my boys will sleep until around 7am each morning. I try and stay up to get things done, after the boys have gone to bed {but since the Little Dude is still waking 2-3 times a night to breast feed I haven’t been staying up that late lately either}.

10. What’s one thing you would never do or never eat?

‘Never say never’. I love food and I love the memories that sharing food with the ones we love creates. Trying new foods can create wonderful memories {even if the food itself it’s that great}.

Get in my belly… I’ve been reading a lot abou Get in my belly…

I’ve been reading a lot about self love of late. I feel like there is so much self sacrifice when you’re a mother, and yet I am starting to realise that I need to love myself first to be a better mum and partner.

So here is to starting with something small for me. These @byronbaycookies are the business!!
Self love sometimes looks like just surging up lef Self love sometimes looks like just surging up leftovers and taking yourself to bed with a good book.

And the toasted bagel thins I made using @thebagelco_australia which I order through @delishdeliveries (why isn’t there a chef’s kiss emoji??)

However, I still seem to feel that mum guilt. I mean, I think I need to do a little more than just follow @drsophiebrock (@smallbusinessgrowthclub has so many good things to say about Sophie)… am I doing enough? Are they happy? Am I creating good memories for them? Am I giving them good life skills and coping tactics? Am I creating enough one on one time with each of them?

I know I’m a people pleaser, a perfectionist (and some … scrap that… most people I know say I am also an over achiever). How do I flip my thinking to focus more on the positive and not be so critical of myself? As I don’t want to pass on this trait to my kids.

Again @delishdeliveries did the majority of the work in preparing the Bulgogi beef.

Boil the rice. Stir fry the beef. Toss some gem lettuce with black sesame seeds and sushi seasoning. Top it all off with kimchi.

Mine was store bought. @staceyclare_healthcoach have you ever made your own kimchi? Have you got a good recipe?

Shari from GoodFoodWeek

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
