Life: What’s in my kitchen

August 1, 2016 by Shari

I wonder if Sydney got the message that it is winter {well, it seems like Sydneysiders are feeling the cold – but us people from Canberra have been taking in the warmer weather with great gusto}. We have been spending our mornings and afternoons {although it seems like naps are beginning to be skipped by both boys these days} down by the water – building sandcastles and even SWIMMING!

I’ve been working on finding the right time and place to take photos, in our new house and I think I am getting better. Well, at least I am much happier with the group of photos that I have to share with you this month.

As you may or may not be aware, Celia from Fig Jam and Lime Cordial is no longer hosting ‘In My Kitchen’ and has handed the baton over to Maureen at The Orgasmic Chef. Check out Maureen’s blog to see who else in joining in to the ‘In My Kitchen’ link up.

I have a $25 voucher for Cali Press. My family are big fans of cold pressed juice so I am interested in trying them out. I would be keen to hear anyone else’s experience with Cali Press. I like that Cali Press not only cares about your health, but the health of the world we live in. They strive to source ingredients from local organic farmers to reduce their carbon footprint and support sustainable farming initiatives within the community. They have five health cafe’s located in Bondi, Bronte, Coogee, Double Bay and Surry Hills. And seeing as we shall be spending a lot more time in Bondi – I think I might head in and try them out.

There has been scones {because what pregnant women doesn’t crave scones?}. Now the scones pictured below are from my local cafe. They do a ‘terracotta pot’ scone – the scone is actually cooked inside the pot and it is a wonderful afternoon treat.Michaela from Not Another Slippery Dip published her recipe for scones here.

I’ve got more then a few pots of Tasmanian Tamar Valley yoghurt. I picked it up at my local Superbarn and have been picking up a few more pots each week as the whole family becomes addicted. They say that when you’re pregnant you don’t need to ‘eat for two’ but towards the end, you will need to slightly increase your calorie intake. And by slightly, they mean an extra piece of fruit or a small tub of yoghurt.

I’m still receiving the Marley Spoon boxes and being completely happy with them.

There have been a few too many gingerbread men {from our local cafe}, the same ones that told me that Bona Fide Cold brew coffee keg has the best taste, I had to buy it tight away. Mr Moo has become addicted to ordering one when we order our babycinos and coffees after we have been at the park. One gingerbread man is normally spilt between the two boys – you can either choose to eat his head and his top button or his legs and his bottom button…The colours of the buttons are extremely important to a three year old and a one year old.

I want to capture as many moments like this as I can as the year draws to a close. Next year, Mr Moo will be attending preschool three days a week and so I will have less and less of these little ‘everyday’ moments with him. Although, I am sure that the next two will keep me busy.

I’ve got a tub of Ben & Jerry’s “Chubby Hubby’ for the fact that my husband has been constantly calling me to pick up ice-cream whilst I am at the shops. Thanks for supporting me on my healthy eating journey – in an effort to stay as healthy as possible during this third pregnancy, I have been avoiding ice-cream {as I don’t normally eat it when I am not pregnant}…But there will come a time, when I’ll just have to have a scoop or two!

I’ve been whipping up this delicious choc banana bread from Two Clean Kids. If you don’t follow her on Instagram, I highly recommend that you do. Her recipes are not only healthy, but always delicious. I’ve been topping my choc banana bread with almond butter and strawberries and it is like a match made in heaven – breakfast, lunch, snack time, dessert… yes please! I think I’ll be whipping up these chick pea brownies next.

Have you been hitting up your local farmers market this month? Have you tried the Ramsgate Foodie Markets? Have you had any pregnancy cravings? Should I be trying out any places to shop in Sydney, now that we are feeling a little more settled? Have you tried anything new in your kitchen this month?

Hey Mae – we are actually now in Sydney {not Canberra anymore – I was there yesterday and it didn’t get above 5 degrees – definitely not swimming weather}. Thanks for adding your link – I have missed seeing everyone’s links as Maureen is taking a break from the link up.

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
