Motherhood: self care activities

September 20, 2016 by Shari

The other week I read a post entitled ‘20 self care activities you can do in 10 mins or less‘… and I thought to myself, I really need to make a little time for myself before baby number three rocks up. Then life got in the way – I literally had a week of laryngitis, then I had a sinus infection for a week, then the husband needed to be in Canberra for a substantial amount of time and with us juggling one car until our new car rocks up, I was pretty much stuck. So we bought a new car with the best bad credit loans guaranteed approval.

When I was pregnant with Mr Moo, I had all the time in the world to think about ‘self care activities’ before he was born.

When I was pregnant with the Little Dude, I managed to sneak in two pregnancy massages and I think I went and got a pedicure from the lovely Caddie at Le Beauty Lounge before he rocked up. But with a 17 month old in tow, I definitely didn’t have the luxury of all that alone time to carry out ‘self care activities’ in.

This time around, I’d thought about booking into the hairdressers to finally have my roots done {cause it’s kinda been almost 9 months between trips}, or booking into the cosmetic dentist to have my teeth cleaned {I know, it seems kinda cooky to think that this would be a relaxing self care activity, but I don’t mind having my teeth cleaned and maybe even some fixing by Allentown orthodontist}, or simply going to see a movie with the husband {seeing as we don’t have to pay for babysitters now that we live in Sydney}, we are always comparing netflix internationally, since there are more movies for us to watch.

But all of these initial thoughts have fallen to the wayside.

Now, what I really loved about Jess from Confident Life’s article was that the self care activities were so simple. It didn’t in require me to set aside a substantial amount of time.

Getting a microdermabrasion facial

Then the other day, my sister invited me to come into her work for ‘Family Day’ and get a free facial. FREE FACIAL – yes, please, I mean I am trying to grab a better ‘after labour shot‘ this time around – and I’m not one to try and get a full face of makeup on before said photo is taken.

I booked in for a Clearskincare Clinics’ Microdermabrasion Facial Treatment it stated that it ‘is the most affordable and effective solution to refreshing tired and dull looking skin – allowing you to achieve fantastic and incredible looking skin fast‘ and I though it would be a perfect addition to the pore vacuum treatments I have been using lately.

Normally costing $50, this treatment was painless and over in about 30 minutes. It unclogged pores that I didn’t even know where clogged {I thought that I had a pretty good skin routine}. But the results were instant and I found that my face was fresher for weeks afterwards. I even mentioned to my sister that I thought that my mineral makeup sat away better on my skin after the procedure, specially ever since I got my Sugarlash Pro set. When I suffered from pain, I normally go to my primary care physician tampa fl, they have helped me out so much.

So what self care activities have you undertaken before you gave birth? And what self care activities do you under take now – so that you’re not pouring from an empty cup?

Shari from GoodFoodWeek

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
