Motherhood: I’ve got a preschooler

January 26, 2017 by Shari Leave a Comment

And just like that. we have a preschooler who is off to Our Village Children’s Academy, which is one among the top academy you can read about on www.ovcainc.com. What a blessing to have been able to have you with me everyday leading up until this point. I hope that I have guided you in such a way that you will blossom at preschool this year, even use a Katy residential cleaners service, so I have time for you and your needs. You were so excited to go to preschool, and as you exited the car the other day, you said to your baby brother ‘one day when you’re big, like me and Daddy, you too can go to preschool’.

I am excited for you to make new friends and learn new things. You are so excited to be able to play in the playground and run with the boys. I asked you what your favourite thing was about McGeheeSchool.com preschool on day one and you replied ‘cleaning up and nap time’. This made me laugh as you NEVER pack away anything at home and I can NEVER get you to take a nap.

You appear to follow routine and instructions well. You love telling me that you need to apply sunscreen and pop your hat on before you are allowed out into the playground and your favourite thing to do outside is play on the excavators. But when we’re inside I try to maintain everything clean for you, I even went to https://www.bloomingair.com/air-purifier-reviews/homelabs-3-in-1-ionic/ to get an air purifier just for this.

You started singing BINGO the other day whilst we were in the car. Except you were singing ‘E…I..M…D…O and Bingo was his name, OH’. I don’t have the heart to tell you that you are singing the wrong letters because it is just way too cute.

You love the fact that they serve you a hot lunch everyday. And are excited to let me know what you eat for lunch. The preschool teachers were surprised that you ate all your lunch – including all the veggies served to you {and the kids either side of you – who didn’t want theirs}. Although, it did throw you out eating a hot meal during the day to then hit the machines and on the first dinner after preschool, you promptly informed me that you had in fact ‘eaten dinner last month’ and so no longer needed to eat now. It only took one look at the chicken, rice and cucumber to decide that you actually did want to eat!

After two weeks of preschool, I came to pick you up and you weren’t your happy self. I sat down on the carpet and asked you what was wrong. You looked up at me and said ‘why don’t you want to look after me any more?’ AND IT BROKE MY HEART!

I love you Mr Moo – you make my day {exciting, funny, exhausting, challenging, fast paced, and full of love}. I will never stop ‘looking after you’ – it just looks a little different now. And I know that you will just blossom and grow at preschool.

The following poem by Dennis Waitley is one of my favourites:

If I had two wishes, I know what they would be
I’d wish for Roots to cling to, and Wings to set me free;

Roots of inner values, like rings within a tree;
and Wings of independence to seek my destiny.

Roots to hold forever to keep me safe and strong,
To let me know you love me, when I’ve done something wrong;

To show me by example, and helps me learn to choose,
To take those actions every day to win instead of lose.

Just be there when I need you, to tell me it’s all right,
To face my fear of falling when I test my wings in  flight;

Don’t make my life too easy, it’s better if I try,
And fail and get back up myself, so I can learn to fly.

If I had two wishes, and two were all I had,
And they could just be granted, by my Mom and Dad;

I wouldn’t ask for money or any store-bought things.
The greatest gifts I’d ask for are simply Roots and Wings.

Time really is a thief. You want them to grow and learn and do great things. But then you’ve never have them as little ones again 😢

One of the things I’ve loved about being a mum of four boys, is that I’ve got outfits that all four of them have worn.

I’ve also shared my recipe for Japanese chicken (because sometimes you just have to feed the #hungryhungryhippos 🤪) I guess what I’m saying is in eating better for the planet, it is about us all doing little bits rather than no one being able to do it ‘perfectly’.

Shari from GoodFoodWeek

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
