October…we made it through September and I thought that I was going to catch my breath, but I didn’t. So I’ll keep my head down and keep going – because I can see a summer of slow starts, beach days, afternoon siestas and BBQs with friends on the horizon.
The boys are excited the whole neighbourhood seems to be ramping up for Halloween. I didn’t commit to it last year. I actually hid some chocolate in case any trick or treaters came by…but they didn’t and I kept the kids inside.
This year, I’ve got no hope – I’ll cross my fingers for fine weather and good community spirit.
But we have a whole month to get through before Halloween – so, come and check out what’s in my kitchen! And if you are interested in seeing what other lovely bloggers have in their kitchen this month, then head over to Sherry Mackay, from Sherry’s Pickings .
In my October kitchen…
I’m eating blueberry bagels with kiri greek style cream cheese and fresh blueberries. How good are the blueberries at the moment? I’m a sucker for a punnet of raspberries – but I’ve been picking up a couple of punnets of blueberries as well for me.
Is it bad that I try and keep a few punnets of berries hidden for a treat for me when everyone has gone to sleep? I eat them with a bottle of mineral water.

An addiction for Asian greens is here to stay. They are quick and easy and can go with some delicious dumplings (home made or purchased from Costco) or some Japanese chicken and rice.
These are simply tossed in grated ginger, garlic, sesame oil, and an oyster sauce recipe i got from this oyster catering service – licked by the stove top and eaten with great gusto! Maybe it’s the chopsticks…my kids are suckers for chop sticks.

We are smashing these dumplings from United Food Co! I love to make my own dumplings – but sometimes, I need to have something in my freezer for when ‘shit hits the fan’. And these are it!
We eat them as pot stickers. Adding the frozen dumplings straight into a saucepan with a little hot oil. Frying them off for 4 minutes. Adding 1/3 cup of water and a lid and steaming them for another 4 minutes.
Swished around with soy and chilli – and chop sticks – and eaten with great gusto. Did I mention everything is moving so quickly…even our nightly meals!

We have a cutie patootie who is eating with us! He is so happy to be up sitting in the highchair. He is doing a mixture of baby led weaning (eating some of the foods off our family table) and purees.
I like to have some of these Raffety’s Garden pouches in the cupboard for when he can’t eat what I’ve served to the family or when we are out and about.
His favourite food is Blitva – mashed potato with sliverbeat and garlic or mangoes. I mean, everyone in our household loves GARLIC and MANGOES (just not together).

We’ve been enjoying theses kefir yoghurts from The Great Collective Dairy. I’m keen to have everyone eat them and have good gut health.
My three year old smashed the blueberry hemp and the raspberry acai – I kept the fig and ginger for myself, but he came over and promptly finished off that one too!
