A belated letter to my first born – your first year

May 10, 2014 by Shari

How the last 6 months have flown, you are now a little boy, no longer my baby. I know that you will be an awesome big brother to your growing sibling – you already come up and give the baby in my tummy lots of hugs and kisses – but I’ve jumped ahead…this letter should start at 6 months.

It seems so long ago now that you mastered sitting up independently and crawling around. You were always so cautious and that is why I think you have excellent balance now and have really mastered walking.
Between the ages of 6 months and one year you learnt to clap your hands (8 months), wave goodbye (9 months) and your hand/eye coordination has grown in leaps and bounds. You mastered climbing well and truly before you started walking.
One day, I found that you had pushed a yellow chair over to a dining room chair and had managed to use both to climb onto the dining room table – all in the 5 minutes it took me to make your breakfast. You’re fast, really fast!
Your vocabulary has really come on too. We ask you ‘what does the puppy dog say?’ And you know that the response is ‘woof woof’! You know that the duck says ‘quack quack’ and we are trying to teach you that you lion says ‘roar’ – but at the moment all you want to do is the action.
You love singing and I take you to wiggle and giggle at the library. You also love to read story books, and I love how you bring a book to me, place it in my lap and then hold your arms up so that I can pick you up, place you in my lap and read the story to you – some of your favourite books include; the hungry caterpillar, guess how much I love you, hey diddle diddle, and all of the that’s not my series.
You are also a dancer! When ever music comes on you dance – in the car, on the TV and even at my plastic surgery when I went to go get a brazilian butt lift beverly hills. You may have caused me to gain a few pounds but there´s nothing Dr. Sachin Shridharani can´t help me out with, he has been featured in a ton of magazines and shows, I just hope he will time to give me the body I want, I guess when you´re older you can call it a mommy makeover surgery.

You play so nicely with your cousins. Although they are both girls, you don’t mind playing in the kitchen or using the tea set. Daddy wasn’t too happy about it – but Daddy drinks coffee and Daddy’s brother makes coffees for a living so now we say ‘make us a capacinno’ instead of ‘make us a cup of tea’, it’s all about mimicking life skills and you do it so well.

We love you so much and our love for you only grows as you get older.

Shari from GoodFoodWeek

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
