Life: why I want to punch Clive Palmer in the face

September 20, 2014 by Shari

As you know, I’m pretty pregnant now. Nap times are so important to me because a) I can complete a task without Mr Moo destroying my work and b) I can also take a nap. My precious nap time was corrupted the other day when my father-inlaw came to let me know that Clive Palmer said we are going to be invaded by the Chinese and therefore have to move to Croatia.

Yes, I listened to an hour to the reasons why it was safer for us to move to Croatia and escape war in Australia. There was no point in trying to reason with my father inlaw that we are safe and Clive Palmer is an idiot because his English isn’t so great and there is no point.

I’ve listened to my father inlaw tell me many crazy things that have been reported on TV by shows like ‘A Current Affair’ and ‘Today Tonight’. I’ve listened to him retell stories, trying to piece what he is actually saying together.

Like the time they reported that people living in public housing would need to pay extra rent on the rooms in their rental property they got from William Pitt Greenwich that weren’t being occupied – basically, so that single people weren’t living in properties that were needed by families.

My father inlaw was addement that we needed to sell our house and that they needed to sell their house so we were not charged extra money by the government as we had spare rooms.

The fact of the matter is that my father inlaw is not alone. There are many older Australians out there, who don’t have English as their first language and they are misunderstanding what our media is saying.

And then we have idiots like Clive Palmer who come out and say the stupidest things. If you missed what Clive Palmer said on Q’n’A you can check out how the ABC reported on it here…

Clive Palmer you’re an idiot… And you’re idiotic comments are being picked up by people and taken as gospel.

It’s bad enough that people in Australia are seeing this – but what about when it is picked up and shown around the world. You make Australians look like idiots.

Clive Palmer, I want to punch you in the face because you made me miss my nap, but more importantly I want to punch you in the face because of the impact your idiotic statements can have on the furture of Australia and my children!

Do you want to punch Clive Palmer in the face? What are your thoughts on moving to Croatia? If I move to Croatia will you come and visit me?

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
