How nice it the warmer weather? It just makes me want to take our dinner and eat outside on our balcony. It’s warm and light and I haven’t become annoyed with the flies yet. I think it is really cute when Mr Moo calls ‘shoo shoo’ and then we all sing ‘Shoo fly, don’t bother me. Shoo fly, don’t bother me. Shoo fly, don’t bother me because I don’t want your company.’
Here are some meals that I was whipping up when Mr Moo was around 9 months old. I think that he was eating as much then as the Little Dude eats now at 14 months! I’m so glad that the Little Dude has improved with his solids, I am still breast feeding and I don’t feel like the solids have improved his sleep – but that’s okay. I realise that each baby is different and he is lucky that he is super awesome at blowing kisses at the moment {I won’t send him back}.
These meals are quick and easy to get on the table whilst you are amusing a child/children {even if I did have an incident with the duck salad – I’m now able to whip it up and juggle the needs of two little ones without any hazards}.
Some tricks that I have added to my repertoire throughout the years {almost 3 in total} include; dancing to music whilst in the kitchen, singing in the kitchen, allowing them to pull out the tupperware, giving them a pot and a set of chopsticks to make a drum, sitting them in the highchair and having ‘happy hour’ whilst I cook – this means giving them things to eat as I cut them up along with the odd cheese and biscuit, or saving their TV time until 30 minutes before dinner {i.e. meal prep time}.
This week’s meal ideas are also light – which I find is something that I want when the weather warms up. I hope I have inspired you to create something special for dinner this week.
What are some of your go to meals for warmer weather? Does the warmer weather inspire you to eat fresh and healthy? If you whip up one of my recipes, I would love to see it – you can use the hashtag #goodfoodweek.

Nice work. I love a good fritter! How about this heat hey? There’s alot more salad at our place 🙂

The salmon and corn fritters are mighty tatsy. We hit up the pool yesterday to escape the heat and I think a BBQ at the pool looks pretty good for dinner next week!

You sound like you have the kid-juggling-meal-prepping routine down pat! I’m definitely going to get some rice paper rolls happening this summer, they’re my favourite!
Shari from GoodFoodWeek says
I don’t know if you can ever have anything ‘down pat’ when you have children. Just when you think that you have them sorted out, they mix it up and you start all over again – but I thought these tips might help somebody out there. And isn’t that what this big internet is all about?

You reminded me I need to make rice paper rolls more often. I love them so much!

So easily they slip my mind too. I’m glad I could bring you a little meal time inspiration 🙂

I know, they’re pretty popular in my household…but I often forget all about them when meal planning.

They all look fabulous, thank you. FYI the duck salad hyperlinks to the fritters 🙁

Thanks for letting me know Jan – I have now updated the hyperlink 🙂

The corn and salmon fritters look great. I think my 2 would actually eat them too!
The tuppaware trick always worked a treat for me too. xx
Shari from GoodFoodWeek says
Thanks Shannon – let me know if you try out the corn and salmon fritters.

I love your tricks in the kitchen – you’ve got it sorted!!
Shari from GoodFoodWeek says
Thanks Lucy. I didn’t know whether to include them or not – but I thought that everyone is at a different place in their motherhood journey and I’d love to help those that are coming after me. I might not have all the answers {who does on this crazy ride}, but I can at least share what has worked for me.

I’m so jealous that the weather is getting warm in Australia! It’s winding down for Winter here! Some of these recipes look delicious. I love the look of those flat breads! You are right though, when it’s hotter I want fresher stuff with lots of salad.
Shari from GoodFoodWeek says
Thanks – the flatbreads are super tasty. And perfect to eat on a warm night {with a nice cool glass of white wine}.
