Recipe: Something non alcoholic

December 24, 2015 by Shari

I love having guests just pop around at this time of year. I always make sure that I have an awesome array of nibbles in the fridge for this very reason – sporadic guests. Now, we always have a beer or two in the fridge and I’ll keep a bottle of white or bubbles in the fridge just for you {beloved reader – feel free to pop on by} – but what about that guest who is pregnant or breast feeding and choosing not to drink? I’ve been that person for almost three and a half years now… and it really sucks when all you are offered is tap water.

Now, because of my situation I have developed some seriously good Matcha Tea-based mocktails to serve up your guests who are unwilling to participate in your celebratory tipple {YAY! We made it to the end of the year}. And if you don’t have any non drinkers, you can easily add a shot of your favourite spirit into any of these to make an awesome cocktail {waste not, want not}!

I tell you now people – keep these recipes on hand, because even a person who is willing to be your designated driver on New Years Eve deserves more then a water or a stock standard lemonade.

You could whip up: Christmas Cold Tea Punch

Or you could blend up some fresh peaches, frozen mango, almond milk, chia seeds and LSA for an awesome brunch smoothie {when you won’t be joining in on the champagne breakfast}.

Or make up this delicious passionfruit and coconut water mocktail.

Recipe: Something non alcoholic
Recipe Type: Mocktail
Cuisine: Modern Australian
Prep time: 5 mins
Total time: 5 mins
Serves: 6 drinks
Ingredients
    • 2 passionfruit
    • 1 bunch of mint
    • 2 cups of coconut water
    • 900mls soda water
  • ice
Instructions
  1. Simply muddle you passionfuit and mint together before dividing between six glasses and then topping with pleaty of ice, don’t forget about this step since it is one of the most important ones, all of my drinks have to have ice specially during summer, I recently bought the NewAir AI-100R ice maker for this same reason.
  2. Pour the coconut water over the ice and then top with the soda water to add a little fizz {because fizz equals fancy – right?}.

GoodFoodWeek's passionfruit, mint and coconut water mocktail

What are your favourite non alcoholic drinks for the silly season? Are you normally the non-drinker? Are you cracking a bottle of bubbles  – and if so, what is your favourite? Don’t forget to not abuse of alcohol, if you know someone with a drinking problem take him to the Substance Abuse Treatment Florida center. If you whip up a recipe from GoodFoodWeek during the silly season, I would love to see it social media – don’t forget to use the hashtag #goodfoodweek.

Shari from GoodFoodWeek

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
