I guess this will be the last time that my ‘In my kitchen’ posts look like this – because next month, I’ll be in a different kitchen. I hope to maintain the same ‘look and feel’, but I won’t have the light grey tiles of my living areas, or the painted wooden panneling as a back drop in my dining room, or the marble backsplash of my kitchen or the light kitchen bench tops.
I’d chosen all the finishes in my home here in Canberra and love them. In July, you’ll see the kitchen of a rental {which I am sure will take on my style in some ways, but it won’t be ‘just so’ like in our first family home.
I’ll also be super sad that I won’t be able to attend the Capital Region Farmers Market each week – a couple of weeks ago, I was finally able to get my hands on some of the Bombolini Doughnuts, which were totally amazing. The taste factor totally exceeded the $5 price tag. But maybe with all of their sugar and the price point, it’s better that I can’t get my hands on them every Saturday morning.
As you may or may not be aware, Celia from Fig Jam and Lime Cordial is no longer hosting ‘In My Kitchen’ and has handed the baton over to Maureen at The Orgasmic Chef. Check out Maureen’s blog to see who else in joining in to the ‘In My Kitchen’ link up.

We have been ploughing through Tilda’s brown basmati and quinoa. It’s prefect for when the boys want rice as a snack – 5 minutes ago. You know the old, ‘I need food NOW’ request of a toddler? This is delicious, quick and easy. Perfect to solve mid dinner breakdowns or to fill yourself up in a simple salad {recipe coming soon}.
In my June kitchen…
There is the sweet smell of roasting pork. How good is pork with crackling? I had the pleasure of receiving another tasty delivery from Murray Valley Pork and I whipped up this milk braised pork with seriously pimped up crackling. It was super delicious!
In my June kitchen…
I’ve been trying out the Thomas Chipman range of gluten free corn chips {from my local IGA}. Just want to make sure that I have plenty of options for my sister when I move up to Sydney. Can’t have the poor celiac starve when she comes over {now that we are going to live less then 15 minutes apart} – and let me just tell you, this research has been pretty tasty!
In my June kitchen…
I’ve been hiding away the Thomas Chipman chips and the Chobani meze dips for when the children are napping and I can enjoy these by myself. We are big eaters of the plain Chobani Greek Yoghurt – often sweetening it ourselves instead of purchasing flavoured yoghurt. I’ve flavoured the plain Chobani Greek Yoghurt with savoury flavours too. So I didn’t think twice when I saw this on the supermarket shelf.

We are making memories by cooking pancakes together for Sunday morning breakfast. We look forward to sharing our pancakes with our nieces in Sydney when we finally arrive. The Little Dude thinks helping Mummy cook blueberry pancakes is the cat’s pajamas {see what I did there – he is wearing Geelong Cats PJs}.
In my June kitchen…
I’ve always got a jar of whole ‘Sicilian’ green olives. My Mum had an olive craving when she was pregnant with me and I actually have an olive craving with this pregnancy. I hadn’t really thought about the sex of this baby – always just presuming it would be another boy. But maybe this craving could mean that it is a girl? Just have to wait and see…
In my June kitchen…
I tried the Noah’s Creative Juices from our local IGA when I couldn’t find the ‘The Fix’ juices {as I love supporting local}. This juice was delicious and just what I was craving after running around after the boys at Paint and Play in the Park. I was a fan of the vanilla bean and chia – the boys, not so much. This was excellent in my eyes as I got to drink the whole thing myself.
In my June kitchen…
I’ve had a delivery or two from Marley Spoon. It has really been a godsend whilst I have been running around trying to organise moving to a new state, organising a new house {and packing up the old one}, organising a new business {more news on that coming}, organising myself for the arrival of a new baby, and running around after a 3 year old and an 18 month old. The meals are delicious, the recipes are easy to follow and the ingredients are always of the highest quality.
In my June kitchen…
I’ve managed to track down caperberries. I love going to Tilley’s on a saturday afternoon to order their pink pate with caperberries. I will really miss doing this when we move to Sydney. But now I can re-create my own when I get that pregnancy craving. Don’t worry, it’s not really pate – more of a salmon mousse that is pregnancy friendly.
In my June kitchen…
I was finally able to get my hands on the new range of juices from The Fix. This one – passionfruit, orange, lemon, lime and gingko biloba – screamed summer and was just what I needed after a 9 degree start at the park. I am kinda glad that I will be missing the harshest park of the Canberra winter. It was 20 degrees last time we were in Sydney and that sounds very nice for winter!
In my June kitchen…
We are snacking on apples and pears from Treetops at the Capital Region Farmers Market. The Fugi apples and Packam pears are delicious at the moment. I hope that I will be able to get my hands on produce of such a high quality when I find a good farmers market in Sydney.
Do you live in Sydney? Where is your favourite place to shop? Have you ever been to the Organic Foodies Market? Have you been to the Farmer’s Market lately? Are you pregnant? Do you have any interesting pregnancy cravings? What things do you enjoy cooking with your little ones? Anything interesting happening with you and your family in June?

Shari, your “tootsies” in your photos always amuse me. (Cool footwear, too.) It’ll be fun to see them in the background at your upcoming rental, and don’t worry — your “style” will be evident. Loved the quick quinoa/brown rice treat — also your fondness for caper berries. Good things are “afoot” in your kitchen, so to speak. 🙂 ADORABLE pic of Little Dude!

OMG how good are those Bombolini doughnuts? It’s lucky I don’t live in Canberra, because I would look like a Bombolini doughnut by now! You really are juggling a lot of balls in the air – I think you’re amazeballs! I hope that next month you get to have a bit of a rest in your kitchen, you certainly deserve it!

Well your little man just stole this post. What a sweet heart!!

Oh, thanks Karin. He is super cheeky at the moment.

Lots of things in your kitchen. You will find lots of markets and interesting things in Sydney. Its a big place though so telling you a good pl;ace to shop might be too far from your house. North of the city or city?. Hope your move is ok

We shall be moving to Sans Souci and my husband will be opening a new business in Bondi – so these will be the areas we will be frequenting. It will definitely not be like Canberra, where everything is approximately 20 minutes away {and there is never ever any traffic}. Thanks for the well wishing on the move 🙂

Right near me! Theres a farmers market evey sTurdY right near you. I am affraid though its not the most trendy party of tiwn for food, but its really nice

Great pics bump included! You’re a glutton for punishment doing all those high stress, life changing things in one hit, home work and family! I’m exhausted just thinking about it. I’m all for kids in the kitchen too. They are never too young
Shari from GoodFoodWeek says
Thanks Sandra. This wasn’t my choice to be doing it all at once, but my husband thinks that I can handle anything. I’ll be happier once I am in Sydney and close to my family, who are happy to lend a pregnant Mama a hand.

You have a LOT going on! Moving, toddlers, packing, unpacking – oh and another one on the way. Great photos with the bump. I’m impressed there’s so much food going on with everything that’s happening 🙂

Sure do Nancy – but in 2 weeks, once we are settled into our new home, hopefully I’ll feel better.

That Little Dude in your kitchen is a sweetie. I am a great believer in kids learning cooking. The apple and pear photo is beautiful.
Shari from GoodFoodWeek says
Thanks Francesca – he loves being in the kitchen with me {with can be a blessing and a curse}. I wonder if baby number three will enjoy the kitchen as much as his big brothers?
