Life: What’s in my kitchen

May 1, 2019 by Shari

It’s May – this was originally the month that Baby Number 4 was meant to arrive. But at our 20 week scan, we were moved forward to the 20th of April, and in the end Buddy Boy arrived on the 11th of April.

We thankfully had the school holidays to adjust to having a newborn in the house. Which meant that we could just lazy about, not having to stick to any timetable or routine (and Daddy could take the older boys on long bike rides down to watch the airplanes take off, whilst the younger boys napped).

I’ve been hungrier then usual – but breast feeding will do that to you. So I’ve been whipping up larger breakfasts or second breakfasts and I’ve been a big fan of morning tea, afternoon tea so I get the best tea from https://letsmatcha.com/ , and I also eat supper (which is really just dessert once you put the children to bed).

If you are interested in seeing what other lovely bloggers have in their kitchen this month, then head over to Sherry Mackay, from Sherry’s Pickings .

In my May kitchen…

We’ve been snacking on these Natural Cracker Co. Sour Cream & Chives crackers. Some days the boys want their third or fourth snack just as I am sitting down to feed the baby – they’ve had plates of fruit and cheese and crackers, and yoghurt, and way too many Easter eggs… And I open up a packet of these so that I can have a little silence whilst they devour the box.

In my May kitchen…

We’ve got lots of fruit platters. We’ve added the Fruit Box to our Marley Spoon order and I’ve been so impressed with the quality, quantity and variety of the fruit that we have been getting. In our most recent box, we received; a pineapple, white peaches, pears, apples, plums, mandarins, bananas and kiwi fruits.

I’m a Marley Spoon affiliate, so you can get $35 off your first box if you use the code: GOOD35FOODMSWEEK.

In my May kitchen…

I am really enjoying this quick and easy Dill mayo, that I whipped up on Good Friday for our fish burgers – the recipe from the lovely BabyMac. I mean, who doesn’t love dill? And my family is a fan of anything with pickles in it!

In my May kitchen…

I’ve got all the snacks for keeping up my milk supply. I am a big fan of Franjos Kitchen and love a lactation biscuit or two with a cuppa. I am also a big fan of Harvest Box and their new ‘Dipped’ range. And I am also a big fan of all the delicious sweet treats that come from our local ‘Son of a Baker‘.

I’ve noticed many a breast feeding Mama picking up a coffee and a pastry from Son of a Baker – maybe we should organise a local Mama catch up for Mama’s who love coffee and pastry at the Sans Souci store!

In my May kitchen…

I’m enjoying oats for breakfast again. And that also means delicious poached fruits – perfect for topping your porridge bowl. I’ve been working on a lady gray poached apple and currants mix which is quiet delicious – and I hope to get the recipe up shortly!

So what’s been in your kitchen of late? Are you planning school lunchboxes? Are you glad that your tribe is heading back to school for Term 2? Do you meal plan? Are you interested in trying Marley Spoon? Do you shop the sales? Do you have a food budget? Do you prepare meals for a large family? Are you a big porridge fan? Are you a breast feeding Mama?

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
