Life: What’s in my kitchen

March 3, 2020 by Shari Leave a Comment

Wow – this is the last month of maternity leave. How quickly did that time go? I’ll be back at work at the start of Term 2 (so end of April, but April nevertheless). I’ve enjoyed being home with the boys and having more time in the kitchen.

I think I’ll just have to be even more organised when it comes to weeknight dinner and lunchbox packing as the year progresses. I’ve seen some people packing whole week’s worth of lunchboxes on a Sunday night – but I just don’t know how they have fridge space for it all?

I’m also looking into more meal delivery and grocery delivery options. I love Marley Spoon. But I obviously can’t get everything I need from them.

And, as always, if you are interested in seeing what other lovely bloggers have in their kitchen this month, then head over to Sherry Mackay, from Sherry’s Pickings .

In my March Kitchen…

I’ve been following Stacey Clare on Instagram. And I’m really into improving our gut health through fermentation. I did her 3 day quick course – which she ran for FREE. And now I really want to sign up for her paid course.

The boys have been smashing her orange juice and kombucha gummies and we have even tried a few combinations of our own! I used these cute silicon ice cube trays to make mine. The boys love these ‘giant’ stars which are much bigger than the ones we make in silicon chocolate molds.

In my March kitchen…

I’m making the most of the last of the ‘summer’ tomatoes. I’m trying to eat more seasonally – and so we will be embracing the Autumnal veggies as they come into season. Think; artichokes, Asian greens, avocado, beans, beetroot, broccoli, and brussels sprouts .

In my March kitchen…

I have Marley Spoon. I am thinking about trialing some other lunch options. I enjoyed YouFoodz but think I might give these bodybuilding and gym meals a go. I don’t necessarily want to loose weight, but the maintaining meals look pretty good. Just think ‘clean eating’ which is what we should all be aiming for anyway.

In my March kitchen…

We will be having this delicious Bilpin honey in our tea and on our toast. We drove out to Bilpin and picked apples a couple of days ago. It was a really fun experience and one that I would recommend.

We took a #emptyesky and brought home eight kilos of apples (Red Delicious, Fuji and Kanzi) and honey and a couple of delicious apple pies (well actually they were consumed in the car on the way home).

In my March kitchen…

We I just had to share these cute little cheese knives that my sister gave me for my birthday.

In my March kitchen…

I’ve been reducing the amount of plastic I bring into the house. Here is one of my little hacks for veggies that might need a plastic bag, look for paper. I’ve been bring home my green beans in paper bags instead of plastic.

So tell me, what is in your kitchen this month? Are you busy packing lunchboxes? Have you tried kombucha, tepache or switchel? Are you interested in increasing your gut health? Do you have a brilliant kitchen hack for me to try? Have you been able to get your hands on toilet paper?

Get in my belly… I’ve been reading a lot abou Get in my belly…

I’ve been reading a lot about self love of late. I feel like there is so much self sacrifice when you’re a mother, and yet I am starting to realise that I need to love myself first to be a better mum and partner.

So here is to starting with something small for me. These @byronbaycookies are the business!!

However, I still seem to feel that mum guilt. I mean, I think I need to do a little more than just follow @drsophiebrock (@smallbusinessgrowthclub has so many good things to say about Sophie)… am I doing enough? Are they happy? Am I creating good memories for them? Am I giving them good life skills and coping tactics? Am I creating enough one on one time with each of them?

I know I’m a people pleaser, a perfectionist (and some … scrap that… most people I know say I am also an over achiever). How do I flip my thinking to focus more on the positive and not be so critical of myself? As I don’t want to pass on this trait to my kids.

Again @delishdeliveries did the majority of the work in preparing the Bulgogi beef.

Boil the rice. Stir fry the beef. Toss some gem lettuce with black sesame seeds and sushi seasoning. Top it all off with kimchi.

Mine was store bought. @staceyclare_healthcoach have you ever made your own kimchi? Have you got a good recipe?

Shari from GoodFoodWeek

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
