I have a little bitter sweet feeling this month, this may be my last ‘In my kitchen’ post from Canberra – sharing some of my favourite things that I’ve picked up from local growers, producers and markets. We could be living in Sydney by June and although I am super excited for the move, and for the fact that I will be so close to family and friends, I will miss the wonderful foodies that I have come to know and be so passionate about in Canberra.
As you may or may not be aware, Celia from Fig Jam and Lime Cordial is no longer hosting ‘In My Kitchen’ and has handed the baton over to Maureen at The Orgasmic Chef. Check out Maureen’s blog to see who else in joining in to the ‘In My Kitchen’ link up.
In my May kitchen…
I’ve been toasting these gluten free wraps from Old Time Bakery Pty Ltd. When we move, I wonder if I will be able to locate as many wonderful gluten free products in Sydney? I picked up these gluten free wraps from the health food store at the Belconnen Markets when my sister came to stay in the school holidays. I think that they were the best gluten free wraps that we have tried so far.
In my May kitchen…
I’ve got a box or two of groseries from the Belconnen Markets – because sometimes you need to make a midweek pick up {even though you think that you have more then enough when you complete your shopping at the Capital Region Farmers Market}.
We power through eggs, and I’ll definitely be sad when I can’t get my hands on the Cuppacumbalong eggs. We are also finding that the Australian pomegranates and grapes are also really delicious at this point in the season {there will be many more fattoush salads enjoyed whilst the pomegrantes are good}.
In my May kitchen…
I’ll be devouring as many blueberry bagels from the Bread Nerds, as I can before we move to Sydney. I have been addicted to them lately with cream cheese, although I’ll eat them with butter as well. It’s not too bad to devour three bagels in one sitting – I mean, I am eating for two. The one bagel that I honestly think everybody has to try is the bagel made with Fireball Whiskey! Just don’t get too drunk on them.
In my May kitchen…
There is lots of lamb backstrap {because it goes so well with Fattoush salad}. This is a lebanese inspired lamb backstrap which I will hopefully get to blogging about in the coming week. I’ll be super sad to say goodbye to ANDO organics, as they are always so helpful when I purchase from them and their lamb is super tasty {and I have been warned that I’ll be paying a lot more for lamb backstrap in Sydney}.
Do you live in Sydney? Where is your favourite place to shop? Where have you located any awesome gluten free products? Where is the best place to shop in the St. George area? Have you ever been to the Organic Foodies Market? Have you been to the Farmer’s Market lately? Anything interesting happening with you and your family in May?

are you moving due to your hubby’s work? it will be exciting for you but so much hard yakka to get there. eek! i think every city has heaps of farmers’ markets now so it is easy to get the good stuff:) have fun and good luck with the move.

Yes, we are planning on keeping our business down here in Canberra and starting something completely new in Sydney. Exciting – but also very scary to leave stability when you are almost 20 weeks pregnant! Thanks for stopping by Sherry xox

Looks like Canberra was / is a pretty magical place…Glad Kristy assured you about the gluten-free wraps…And those blueberry bagels do look fabulous. (Can you order a bunch and freeze them?) As for Sydney…I’m confident you’ll find tons of organic goodies…And I trust you can visit the gorgeous Opera House. Wishing you happy new adventures =)

It has been a great little place to raise my boys and I have truly made some wonderful foodie friends. I hadn’t thought about freezing the bagels {they never last that long around here} – but it is something that I could look into.

I’m sure you’ll get lots of good tips from people in Sydney but I can tell that this is a bittersweet post. I didn’t know you were eating for two. You may as well have a couple more bagels whilst you can. I look forward to seeing what your June kitchen reveals.
Shari from GoodFoodWeek says
Thanks – I think I’ll eat as many of the bagels whilst I can. But I am sure I will find some lovely growers/producers in Sydney… It will just take a while to build myself a wonderful foodie network, like I have in Canberra at the moment.

You’re in luck! Those gluten free wraps are definitely available in Sydney – just about every Woolworths store has them! If you haven’t tried BFree wraps, be sure to keep an eye out for them too – they are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than any other wrap I’ve tried and available at Woolies too.
Definitely eat ALL THE BAGELS before you get here though as those look SO good! Haha
If you’re moving to the St George area, I’m your girl because we live in Oatley! 😉 The Ramsgate Foodies Market is awesome and we’re there just about every Saturday!

Wonderful news about the wraps.
So good to know that you’re close by. My Godmother actually lives in Oatley, so I know the area a little bit. We should try and catch up when I’ve settled in 🙂

Sounds like a plan! xo
