Recipe: Berry-lisious smoothie bowl

November 24, 2016 by Shari Leave a Comment

Hello, my name is Shari and I’m an Instagram addict. It’s been 30 minutes since my last fix. I pick up my phone to scroll through beautiful feeds whilst I am breast feeding {because I struggle to hold a book to read whilst breast feeding and I am often using the TV to occupy two older boys – and there is only so much Pepper Pig and Thomas the Tank that I can watch}. And my instagram addiction inspired me to whip up a recipe for a berry-lisious smoothie bowl.

Smoothie bowls are what they sound like, but they’re better. You can create pretty much any combo of flavours that you want and then top it with your favourite fruits and other crunchy things like cereal and nuts. This means it’s more satisfying than a regular smoothie because you can’t down it 10 seconds. To make cold juice at home you can purchase the best blender for smoothies.

Smoothie bowls are a huge thing on Instagram and are super trendy because they are so pretty. If you’ve gotten hooked on açai bowls at your local juice shop, these are basically the same thing. A smoothie bowl is just an açai bowl without the açai.

PRO TIP: If you want to make a pretty design, add the heaviest ingredients last.

Oh and I have added chia seeds into my berry-licious smoothie bowl to make the whole mixture ‘thicker’ – so it is easier for little ones to eat with their spoon {you know me, what is good for the goose is good for the gander and visa versa – *high fives for one-family-meal*}. I also don’t use ice in my smoothie bowl, so that it isn’t too cold for little ones to eat.

Although in saying that, I find that if any is leftover, I place it in a container and freeze it for an awesome frozen afternoon snack for another day – waste not, want not.

BERRY_LICIOUS SMOOTHIS BOWL

2 bananas
1 punnet of strawberries
1 punnet of blueberries
1 cup of greek yoghurt
1/4 cup of LSA
1/4 cup of chia seeds
Topping of your choice: I used more strawberries, berry clusters granola and sesame seeds

Place all your ingredients {bar the toppings} in one of the juicing blenders or food processor, and blend until smooth. Pour into your bowl and decorate with your favourite toppings. I like that each family member can customise their bowl.

Get in my belly… I’ve been reading a lot abou Get in my belly…

I’ve been reading a lot about self love of late. I feel like there is so much self sacrifice when you’re a mother, and yet I am starting to realise that I need to love myself first to be a better mum and partner.

So here is to starting with something small for me. These @byronbaycookies are the business!!

However, I still seem to feel that mum guilt. I mean, I think I need to do a little more than just follow @drsophiebrock (@smallbusinessgrowthclub has so many good things to say about Sophie)… am I doing enough? Are they happy? Am I creating good memories for them? Am I giving them good life skills and coping tactics? Am I creating enough one on one time with each of them?

I know I’m a people pleaser, a perfectionist (and some … scrap that… most people I know say I am also an over achiever). How do I flip my thinking to focus more on the positive and not be so critical of myself? As I don’t want to pass on this trait to my kids.

Boil the rice. Stir fry the beef. Toss some gem lettuce with black sesame seeds and sushi seasoning. Top it all off with kimchi.

Mine was store bought. @staceyclare_healthcoach have you ever made your own kimchi? Have you got a good recipe?

Shari from GoodFoodWeek

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
