Recipe: Monday meal ideas – Heat up the BBQ

November 16, 2015 by Shari

When the weather is fine – we have BBQ’ing on our mind. The humble sausage normally goes down pretty well in our household. Heck, my husband sometimes heads down to Bunnings on a Sunday afternoon just for the sausage sizzle, we already got a good grill from the Kettle Metal The Best Electric Smoker Reviews online. Summer sausage sizzles bring fun, family memories and they were often used as a ‘reward’ at my high-school. But sometimes you want something a little more then said humble sausage – don’t worry I’ve got you covered.

Think outside sausages and steak – today, be inspired in your meal planning by two awesome chicken options, a lamb option and a delicious summer pasta salad {that can be whipped up at nap time if need be} to go with a humble sausage or steak. I love preparing the elements for our dinner earlier in the afternoon and then quickly firing up the BBQ right before we want to eat!

You can also think about elements that you can also cook on the BBQ {thereby eliminating the need to wash anything up}. Try some charred corn with your Lebanese chicken, some grilled eggplant with your saltimbocca skewers, some roasted capsicum with your kofta, or maybe some BBQ strips of zucchini.

Actually, my boys are loving BBQ’ed strips of zucchini at the moment. And if any are leftover, I serve them up with their boiled eggs for breakfast. Who says you can’t eat veggies at breakfast time?

What do you BBQ besides the humble sausage or steak? Do you BBQ veggies? If you whip up any of the recipes from my quick and easy dinner inspiration, I would love to see them on social media – don’t forget to use the hashtag #goodfoodweek.

GoodFoodWeek started in 2008 as a way of sharing recipes with uni friends and family who were spread near and far. It has evolved over the years to contain my ramblings as I’ve searched for a house, planned the perfect veggie patch, stumbled through farmer’s markets with my eye half open (because you need to be there at 6am to get the fresh eggs), had babies, gathered family and friends around a shared table, laughed out loud and enjoyed life to the fullest!
